Swim Teams Finish Sixth at The men finished with 192 points and the women finished with 153. On Saturday Mike Brudzinski placed seventh in the men's 200-yard butterfly final with a time of 2:08.61. In the same race, Anthony Orlando finished 12th (2:11.90), Sean Breneman finished 14th (2:15.84), and Andrew Sisulak finished 16th (2:27.63). In the men's 1650-yard freestyle, Orlando represented the Falcons with a 16th place finish (18:31.66). Three Falcon men swam in the 200-yard backstroke final. Tyler Campbell touched the wall in 14th place (2:11.95), Josh Anderson finished in 15th place (2:12.62), and Justin Anderson finished in 16th position (2:19.99). In the women's 1650-yard freestyle, Alyssa Adair placed 12th with a time of 19:04.32, Emily Stein touched in 19:28.16 for 15th place, Tamra Knight finished 19th in 19:59.45, and Rachel Merrier rounded out the top 20 with a time of 20:08.57. Megan Murphy placed 16th in the women's 200-yard butterfly (2:30.62) and Caitlin Gargulak finished 15th in the women's 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.11). In the women's 100-yard freestyle, Danielle Mandich swam in the final and placed 13th (54.71). Anastasi Anderson swam for the Falcons in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke and placed 13th (2:18.62). River Falls placed fifth in the women's 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:41.55 and the time is a school record. Stein, Katie Zappa, Jill Lambach, and Mandich swam for the Falcons in the race. "We finished the meet with two dozen new top 10 times - one of our best for that category since I've been here," said Falcon Coach Bill Henderson. "The women's 400 free relay team broke the school record by about two seconds." |

Swim Teams Compete in The top individual finisher for the Falcons on Friday was Mike Brudzinski who placed ninth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:27.79. Also in the 400-yard IM, Anthony Orlando placed 12th (4:37.57), Tyler Campbell placed 14th (4:50.64), and Tommy Matthewson finished 16th (5:03.12). The men's team had three other individuals make the finals in their event on Friday. Sean Breneman placed 16th in the men's 100-yard butterfly (57.15), Travis Dunnell placed 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.43), and Dan Blasberg finished 16th in the men's 100-yard backstroke finals (59.28). Four individuals made the finals from the women's team on Friday. Tori Jambretz finished 12th in the 100-yard butterfly final with a time of 1:02.02 and Katie Zappa touched the wall just behind her in 14th place (1:02.37). Anastasi Anderson placed 13th in the women's 100-yard backstroke finals with a time of 1:02.32 and Emily Stein finished 15th in the women's 200-yard freestyle finals with a time of 2:01.07. River Falls placed fifth in the women's 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:11.22. The team was comprised of Zappa, Jambretz, Danielle Mandich, and anchored by Stein. River Falls placed sixth in the men's 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:49.65. The team was comprised of Brudzinski, Justin Anderson, Josh Anderson, and Orlando. In addition, the men's team also finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.73). The third and final day of the WIAC Meet will begin Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 7 p.m. |

Swim Teams Compete at WIAC The WIAC Meet began Thursday at Brown Deer and will continue through Saturday. The River Falls men’s and women’s teams each finished the first day in sixth place. The women collected 65 points and the men finished the day with 57 points. Events continue on Friday. Preliminaries start at 10 a.m. and finals begin at 7 p.m. on the second day of competition. |

| Phillips Named WIAC Swimmer of the Week
Feb. 10, 2009 Tom Phillips (Fr., Cottage Grove, Minn. Park HS) has been named the WIAC swimmer of the week according to league Sports Information Director, Matt Stanek. Phillips won two events in the team's 98-74 win at Hamline on Friday night. He won the 200 free in 2:06.21 and that is his best time of the season in the race. And he was a member of the 200 medley relay team that placed first in 2:00.35. The Falcon swim team is off until the WIAC Meet which will be Feb. 19-21 in Brown Deer. |
Swim Teams Win at Hamline The Falcon men's and women's swim teams topped Hamline University in a dual meet Friday night in St. Paul, Minn. The women's team outscored the Pipers, 121-80, and the men's team won, 98-74. The women finish the season with a 5-1 dual meet record which is the best record for the Falcons in the past 10 years, according to Falcon Coach Bill Henderson. The Falcon women had three individuals place first. Rachel Merrier won the 1650-yard freestyle (20:28.51), Megan Murphy won the 200-yard IM (2:27.73), and Alyssa Adair won the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.80). The Falcon men had two individuals win their event. Anthony Orlando won the 1650-yard freestyle (18:57.77) and Tom Phillips won the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.21). Two relay teams from the men's squad and two relay teams from the women's squad placed first in the meet. For the men, Tom Phillips, Thomas Mathewson, Tyler Campbell, and Justin Anderson won the 200-yard medley relay (2:00.35) and Dan Blasberg, David Johnson, Travis Dunnell, Mike Brudzinski won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.52). For the women, Anastasia Anderson, Caitlin Gargulak, Victoria Jambertz, and Jill Lambach won the 200-yard medley relay (2:02.16) and Katie Zappa, Justine Ahrens, Ranndi Tutor, and Danielle Mandich won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.80). The Falcons next take to the pool at the WIAC Meet at Brown Deer. The meet runs from February 19-21 and starts at 10 a.m. each day. |

Swim Teams Split at St. Mary's The Falcon men’s and women’s swimming split with Saint Mary’s University in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon in Winona, Minn. The women topped SMU 130-111, and the men fell to SMU 138-122. |

Swim Teams Finish Well at St. Kate's Invitational The Falcon men and women's teams participated in the St. Catherine Invitational on Saturday. The men's team finished second with 504 points and the women's team finished fourth with 414 points. The Falcon men had six top-four finishers. Anthony Orlando finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle (19:26.71). Sean Breneman finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:32.3) and Andrew Sisulak placed third in the same race (2:37.02). Breneman also finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.92). Tom Phillips placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.16), Mike Brudzinski finished fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.82), and Dan Blasberg finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.25). The Falcon women had eight top-four finishes in individual events. Anastasia Anderson finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.33) and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.61). Alyssa Adair finished third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:39.9) and fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle (20:04.99). Danielle Mandich placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (57.8) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.84). Katie Zappa finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.26) and Megan Murphy finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:40.4). Falcon relay teams also had some notable finishes. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay 'A' team placed second with a time of 1:45.05. They touched the wall 0.01 seconds behind the first place finisher. Zappa, Tori Jambretz, Jill Lambach, and Mandich made up the 'A' team. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay 'A' team placed third with a time of 1:35.19. Blasberg, Travis Dunnell, Brudzinski, and David Johnson swam the race for the Falcons. UWRF will next compete on Saturday at St. Mary's. Events begin at 1 p.m. |

Swim Teams Finish 10th at Falcon Invitational The Falcon swimming teams finished 10th with a combined team score of 128 points in the Falcon Invitational that concluded on Saturday. The Falcon women finished eighth with 114 points and the men placed ninth with 14 points. The Falcon women had three individuals score a 12th place finish: Katie Zappa in the B-Final of the 200-yard butterfly (2:27.67), Stazi Anderson in the B-Final of the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.58), and Danielle Mandich in the 100-yard freestyle (56.49). The top individual finisher for the Falcon men was Mike Brudzinski in the B-Final of the 400-yard individual medley. He finished with a time of 4:44.29. Falcon relay teams notched a couple of notable finishes. In the 200-yard medley relay, the women's 'A' team finished 10th with a time of 1:57.89 and the men's 'A' team finished 18th with a time of 1:52.48. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the women's 'A' team finished 11th with a time of 3:49.46 and the men's 'A' team finished 17th with a time of 3:37.84. Swim Teams Compete in Day One of Falcon Invite The UWRF men and women’s swimming & diving teams participated in the first day of the Falcon Invitational held at the University of Minnesota today. The top performance for the Falcons was a third place finish in the A-Final of the 100-yard butterfly by Katie Zappa. She finished with a time of 1:02.83. Tori Jambretz finished 11th in the B-Final of the same event in 1:04.09. Danielle Mandich finished 13th in the B-Final of the women’s 50-yard freestyle in 25.95. Mike Brudzinski finished 14th in the B-Final of the men’s 100-yard butterfly in 58 seconds. Nichole Greseth placed 16th in the 1-meter diving event with 104.7 points to lead the Falcons. The UWRF women had three teams compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The ‘A’ team finished ninth, ‘B’ team finished 19th, and ‘C’ team finished 24th. The Falcon men had two teams compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the ‘A’ team finishing 14th and the ‘B’ team finishing 20th. The women’s 400-yard medley relay had three UWRF teams compete. The ‘A’ squad finished 10th, ‘B’ team finished 23rd, and ‘C’ team finished 24th. The men had two teams compete in the 400-yard medley relay. The ‘A’ squad finished 19th and the ‘B’ squad finished 20th. The women are in seventh palce in the team standings with 73 points. The men are in eighth with nine points. The Falcon Invitational continues Saturday at the University of Minnesota Dorothy Shephard Natatorium beginning at 9 a.m. |

Swim Teams Finish The Falcon men and women's teams participated in the WIAC Relays event hosted by UW-Eau Claire. Both squads finished sixth at the event. The Falcon women scored 40 points in the team competition. The 400 freestyle team finished fourth with a time of 3:51.96. Additionally, the Falcon women placed fifth in the 300 medley, 1,500 free, 300 butterfly and 300 backstroke. Nichole Greyseth finished fourth in the one-meter diving with a score of 131.2. The Falcon men scored 34 points in the team competition. The 850 freestyle team finished fourth with a time of nine minutes. Additionally, the Falcon men placed fifth in the 200 freestyle, 1500 freestyle, 300 butterfly and 300 backstroke. UWRF will next host the Falcon Invitational on Dec. 5-6. The Invitational will be held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Events start at 9 a.m. each day. |

Swim Teams Beaten by Eau Claire The Falcons and the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire faced off Saturday afternoon at Hudson Middle School at 1 p.m. The Falcon women were defeated by a score of 123-89, while the Falcon men were defeated by a score of 120-84. The women’s swimmer of the meet is Victoria Jambretz. Jambretz swam a 1:05.32 in the 100 butterfly and a 26:12 in the 50 freestyle. She led the Falcons in both of these events. Emily Stein swam a 12:20.99 in the 1000 freestyle and had the best time of the UWRF participants in the event. Leading the Falcons in the 200 freestyle was Justine Ahrens with a time of 2:15.24. The best Falcon time for the 200 IM was by Katie Zappa with 2:30.26. Zappa also led in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58:16. Jill Lambach led in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:13.27. Danielle Mandich had the best time for the Falcons in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:43.03. Roxie Pingry had the top Falcon time in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 1:16.15. The men’s swimmer of the meet is Dan Blasberg. Blasberg had the best overall time in the 50 freestyle with 24:23, and the best Falcon time in the 100 freestyle with 54:40. Mike Brudzinski led the Falcons in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:56.24. Brudzinski also had the best time for UWRF in the 100 butterfly after swimming a 1:01.72. Josh Anderson had the best time for the Falcons in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:10.09. Anderson also led the Falcons in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:12.56. Tom Phillips led the Falcons in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.76. Travis Dunnell had the best Falcon time in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.36. UWRF will head to Lawrence University on Saturday. Events start at 1 p.m. |

Swim Teams Split Against Macalester The UWRF Falcons men and women’s teams faced the Macalester Scots at River Falls High School on Friday night. The Falcon women defeated the Scots 159-137. Danielle Mandich of the Falcons lead in the 200 yard free style with a time of 2:04.91. Mandich also had the best time in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.07, and the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.50. Anastasia Anderson lead the Falcons to first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.46, and the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:29.46. Katie Zappa and Victoria Jambretz dominated the 200 yard butterfly with times of 2:27.17 and 2:29.58 respectively. Zappa also had the best time in the 100 yard butterfly with 1:04.60. The Falcon men were outscored by the Scots 153-127. Josh Anderson lead the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 21:10.09. Michael Brudzinski had the best time of the day in the 100 yard breast stroke with 1:07:02. The nearest competition in the event was by Emmett Costel of Macalester, who had a time of 1:12.38. Brudzinski also had the best time in the 200 yard breast stroke with 2:30.60, and the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:01.50. Falcon Sean Breneman lead the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:36.70. UWRF will face Eau Claire at Hudson Middle School this Saturday. |

| Mandich Named WIAC Swimmer of the Week
Oct. 21, 2008 Falcon Danielle Mandich has been named the WIAC Swimmer of the Week according to league Sports Information Director, Matt Stanek. Mandich had several outstanding swims to help lead the Falcons to a 137-134 win over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at the River Falls High School poll. Mandich, 5-9, placed first in the 50 free in 25.95 and in the 100 free in 58.02 to lead the Falcons. She was the leadoff swimmer for the 200-free relay team that placed first in 1:46.56 and she was the anchor for the 200-medley relay team that placed first in 2:00.44. The Falcons will next host Macalester at 6 p.m., on Oct. 31 at the River Falls High School pool. |
