Witte Invited to Green Bay Packers
Rookie Mini Camp

April 27, 2009

Falcon football center Scott Witte has been invited to the Green Bay Packers rookie mini camp that will be held April 30-May 3.

Witte, from Cedarburg, started for the Falcons at center for four years and played his final season in 2008.

Witte, 6-6, 345 pounds, was named to the 2008 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team. He earned honorable mention after the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

“My size and the fact that I was a four-year starter at UWRF are two things I have going for me,” said Witte in a phone interview on Monday. “I was fortunate to get a lot of playing time with the Falcons.”

Witte played one season with the Falcons when the team used the wishbone offense and ran the ball 90 percent of the time. Between Witte’s freshmen and sophomore seasons the Falcons changed to a zone offense that featured more passing.

“Moving to the zone offense helped me 10 fold in learning pass blocking techniques. Most of the NFL teams use a zone blocking scheme and that’s what I’ve been able to learn.”

Witte, who will graduate on May 16 with a degree in agriculture engineering, is confident in his run blocking skills also. “I’m good at keeping my feet moving and staying low which is what is needed in run blocking.”

Witte is looking forward to the camp. “I want to give it everything I’ve got – just give it my best shot. Hopefully it will lead to a free agent contract with the Packers and more opportunities.”

Working with his agent, Witte also could sign as a free agent with another NFL team, or play in the Canadian or the newly formed United Football League.
