UWSP Tops UWS in Double Overtime to Win NCHA Title

Pam Stohr scored at 2:22 of the second overtime to help lift UW-Stevens Point to a 2-1 win over UW-Superior in the NCHA playoffs championship game.

This was the first women's NCHA playoff game that went extra sessions. UWSP won its second NCHA playoff title - the other came in 2002 with a 2-1 win over UW-River Falls. The Pointers also played in the 2003 championship game - losing to UWRF, 5-1.

It was Stohr's third goal of the year and Hilary Bulger got the assist on the play for the Pointers who are now 17-6-4 overall.

UWS, now 19-7-1 overall, got on the board first at 14:03 of the second period when Erin Kegley scored top shelf from 20 feet in front of the UWSP net. Ashley Jenkins got the assist.
UWSP tied the game at 5:56 of the third period when Kim Lunneborg scored off a deflection on a shot from the point by Jana Jurkovich.

UWSP out shot UWS 42-26 in regulation, but UWS held a 14-7 advantage in the first overtime. Stohr's goal came on the first shot of the second overtime.

UWS goalie Kristy Faechner made 48 saves and UWSP goalie Amy Statz stopped 40 shots.

Each team had four minor penalties and finished 0-3 on the power play.
