
UWSP Beats GAC, 3-2, in 2 OTs; Advance to NCAA Semifinals

UWSP's Jackie Schmitt scored in the second overtime to help lift her team past Gustavus Adolphus and into the NCAA Div. III semifinals. Schmitt scored her 14th goal of the season at 10:00 of the second overtime. She was assisted by Ashley Howe. UWSP led 1-0 after one and 2-1 after two in the game played at Gustavus Adolphus. The Pointers took a 1-0 lead at 11:03 of the first period when Liz Goergen scored her ninth goal of the year with assists to Ann Ninnemann and Kim Lunneborg. GAC tied the game at 2:11 of the second period when Andrea Peterson scored her 16th goal of the year, unassisted. UWSP got the lead back at 12:47 when Jenn Dorff scored her second goal of the year with an assist to Tracy Truckey. Peterson tied the game again for GAC with a power-play goal at 9:32 of the third period. Ellen Doyle picked up the lone assist on Peterson's 17th goal of the year. Both teams had eight shots in the first overtime and two in the second before Schmitt won it. UWSP goalie Amy Statz made 27 saves to improve her record to 12-4-4.
GAC goalie Kristin Setterstrom made 33 saves and ended the season with
a 13-3 record. |
