UW-Stevens Point Loses in NCAA Quarterfinals

UW-Stevens Point, winners of the NCHA regular season and playoff championships, lost a 3-0 decision to Gustavus Adolphus in the NCAA Div. III quarterfinals played Saturday in Stevens Point.

After a scoreless first period, GAC led 1-0 after two periods. Molly Doyle scored a short-handed goal at 9:09 of the second period. Andrea Peterson scored at 15:35 of the third, and she added an empty-net goal at 18:22.

UWSP goalies Amy Statz (23) and Janelle Korbas (2) combined for 25 saves while GAC goalie Kara Meyer stopped all seven shots she faced.

UWSP and Gustavus Adolphus played twice earlier this year with Gustavus taking a 6-4 win on Jan. 9 in a game played at a neutral site, and UWSP taking a 5-1 win at home on Jan. 30. UWSP had a 12 game unbeaten streak since the loss on Jan. 9.

The two teams played in the 2004 NCAA quarterfinals with UWSP earning a 3-2 double overtime win at Gustavus.
