UWSP Wins Second NCHA Regular Season Title

UW-Stevens Point won two road games last weekend and has won the 2005 NCHA regular season championship. The Pointers won the 2002 title and have won the 2002 and 2004 playoff titles. UWSP (19-2-0) topped UW-Superior, 2-1, on Friday and UW-River Falls, 2-0, on Saturday to improve to 9-0-0 and 18 points in NCHA play. The Pointers will host the NCHA playoffs which will be played Feb. 26-27. The playoffs feature the top four teams in the regular season final standings. UWRF (10-11-0) holds a two point advantage over UWS (13-5-1) for second place in the league standings. UWRF is 5-4-0 for 10 points while UWS is 4-3-0 for eight points. UWRF has just one NCHA game left while UWS will play three more league games. The battle for the fourth and final playoff spot is between UW-Eau Claire (11-8-1), Lake Forest (8-7-4) and Finlandia (3-13-1). Lake Forest picked up three points over the weekend with a 3-2 win and a 2-2 tie at home against Finlandia. LFC is now 1-3-2 in NCHA play and has four points. The Foresters have four league games remaining. UWEC is 1-5-1 in NCHA play and has three NCHA games left to play. FU picked up its first point in league play on Sunday with the tie at LFC. FU is 0-5-1 and has one point in league play with four games remaining. |
There are four NCHA games set for this weekend. LFC will play at UWEC on Friday and UWSP on Saturday. UWS will be at FU on Friday and the two teams will play at UWS on Saturday. In a non-conferene game, UWRF will be at St. Olaf on Wednesday. After this weekend's games, there are four more NCHA games left on the schedule and they will be played Feb. 18-19. |
