The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association women's playoff championship started with the 2000-2001 season, which was also the first season the women competed within the NCHA.

The first league playoffs featured the top four teams in the final regular-season standings. The four teams met in two semifinal games on Saturday, March 3. The two semifinal winners met in a one-game championship contest while a third place game was also played on Sunday, March 4. All four games were held at W. H. Hunt Arena at UW-River Falls.
