
UW-Superior Tops Lake Forest in 3 OTs

March 3, 2001 UW-Superior's Jenny Ginkel scored at 2:37 of the third overtime to lift her team to a 4-3 win over Lake Forest College in a NCHA playoff semi-final game played Saturday at Hunt Arena at UW-River Falls. Ginkel scored off a rebound from a shot by Angela Harvieaux. Rachel Helleloid also got an assist on the game-winner. LFC's Robyn Slater scored at 8:14 of the first period to give her team a 1-0 lead. UWS tied the game at 18:58 when Brei Thompson scored with assists to Ginkel and Helleloid. In the second, UWS took a 2-1 lead when Mika Sharpe scored a power-play goal with Ivana Novkovic getting the assist. LFC tied the game at 4:37 when Slater scored her second of the game with an assist to Laura Beebe. Both teams scored in the third period. UWS got its goal from Theresa Williams at 5:58 and LFC's Lara Scheibner scored with just 1:53 to play. UWS outshot LFC 15-7 in the first overtime and 16-6 in the second 20-minute stanza. UWS had a 4-0 advantage in shots in the third OT. LFC goalie Theresa Taylor was outstanding and made 63 saves. UWS's Kelly Timm stopped 25 shots. UWS will play the winner of the other semi-final game between UW-River Falls and UW-Stevens Point. LFC will face the loser of the other semi-final game in the third place game. Sunday's third place game starts at noon and the championship tilt is set for 3 p.m.
