The 2006-07 Falcons
Krista Cordes Krista Cordes is a multi-dimensional player who returns for her final season with the Falcons in 2006-07. She played significant minutes in every game last season and will be a key player and senior leader to this year’s team. She started 23 of the team’s 26 games in 2005-06. Cordes averaged 8.3 points per game, leading the team with 35 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 86 percent from the charity stripe. She was the team’s third leading rebounder with 4.6 per game. She stepped up her defense and guarded both perimeter and post players. Coming up with 19 blocked shots she was the second leading blocker for the Falcons. Krista joined the Falcons in 2003 from Farmington High School in Minnesota. She was a two-time all-conference selection and a three-year starter for the Tigers. She averaged 16 points and five rebounds per game her senior season. Cordes was voted her team’s Most Valuable Player in 2003 and finished with over 1,000 career points. She is the daughter of Teri and Jack Cordes. Krista is majoring in business administration with a marketing emphasis.

Megan Lindman Megan Lindman returns in the post for her senior year with the Falcons in 2006-07. She had a great season with the Falcons in 2005-06 averaging nine points a game and 4.4 rebounds. She led the team with 24 blocked shots for the season, which was fourth in the WIAC. Lindman has been a dominant shot blocker for the Falcons throughout her collegiate career. She starts the 2006-07 season with 86 career blocks, only 17 short of the UWRF all-time record set 25 years ago. Megan scored double digits and was leading scorer against Finlandia with a high of 18 points. Megan joined the Falcons from Rochester Mayo High School where she was all-conference three years and held the school record for blocked shots. In high school, Lindman averaged 13.3 points a game, 9.5 rebounds, 2.1 blocked shots and 3.6 assists per game. Megan is majoring in broad area English and was on the Deans list in 2005-06, a member of Honor Society for English majors, and on the Scholastic Honor Roll every semester. She is the daughter of Debbie and Randy Lindman.

Chantele Melgaard Chantele Melgaard returns to the Falcons for her senior season. After taking a year off to have her daughter, Jordan Marie Melgaard-Torrez, she is back and is expected to be a major asset to the team. During the 2004-05 season Melgaard started 24 games during the season, averaging 31 minutes of play, and 8.6 points a game. Chantele earned recognition being named to the All-WIAC Defensive team, which is the 5 best defensive players in the league. As a sophomore she missed part of the season due to an injury, but started the 18 games she played in averaging 25 minutes of play along with eight points and 2.9 rebounds per contest. Chantele came to UWRF after a very successful career at Lakeville High School. She helped lead the panthers to the Minnesota State Class 4A Championships in 2001 and 2002. Lakeville won the conference and sectional championships for three straight years. In Melgaard’s senior season her team finished a perfect 28-0 and she averaged 10 points, two rebounds, and three steals a game. Her performance that year earned her a spot on the All-Conference team and in the Minnesota All-Star game. Chantele is the daughter of Chip and Dawn Melgaard. She is majoring in health & human performance with a minor in coaching.

Melanie Preiner Melanie Preiner returns this year as a team captain for her senior season with the Falcons. During the 2005-06 season she averaged 11.6 points per game and 4.7 rebounds, which was second on the team in both categories. That’s especially impressive from the point guard position. She led the Falcon’s in steals with 73 picks, twice as many as any of her teammates. She led the team in minutes played with nearly 34 minutes per game. Preiner also led UWRF in 3-point field goals made with 55 throughout the season. Twenty three-pointers this season would put her second in the UWRF record book in a career and 71 made would make her the all-time leader. Melanie earned All-WIAC honorable mention. Although Preiner at times doesn’t stand out to the opponent during the game, she certainly stands out to her teammates clearly making the Falcons a better team when she’s on the court. She led UWRF in scoring six times last season, and in the WIAC she’s near the top in multiple categories. She led the league in steals, was second in 3-point field goals made, and sixth in assist/turnover ratio. Melanie is the daughter of Julie and Tom Preiner. She is majoring in marketing communications and minoring in mass communications.

Traci Reimann Traci Reimann is entering her fourth and final season as a Falcon and hopes to have a strong finish to her career at UW-River Falls. She’s is one of the three captains to lead the team this year. Traci is coming off a strong 2005-06 season where she started and played in 21 of the team’s 26 games, she missed the final five games due to a foot injury. Out of those 21 games she was the leading scorer in nine contests and leading rebounder in 18. She also had an amazing nine double-doubles last season. Traci is a tremendous force under the basket and she showed that against Stout where she scored a season high 27 points. Traci finished the year leading her team in both scoring and rebounds with an average of 14.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She was named UWRF Player of the Week five times throughout the season, and also named to the first All-WIAC and All-Defensive teams. Reimann’s presence in the WIAC really shined through in 2005-06. She was sixth in scoring and led the league in both offensive and defensive rebounding. Traci has started every game she’s played in a Falcons uniform. She is just 252 rebounds away from the all-time career rebounding record set in 1986. After 221 rebounds in 2005-06 and missing the last five games of the season, Reimann could earn herself a top spot in the UWRF history books. Traci is the daughter of Kathy Reimann. She is majoring in health & human performance - exercise science with a minor in coaching.

Caitlin Hunstock Caitlin Hunstock returns to the Falcons for her second season with the team in 2006-07. Hunstock appeared in 22 of the team’s 26 games during the 2005-06 season. She can step outside and shoot the three or get inside and post up. Her versatility will help fill gaps at multiple positions for the Falcons this season. She competed at West Chester University in Pennsylvania in 2004-05 where she played in 20 games and scored six points and grabbed six rebounds. Hunstock played at Minneapolis South High School where she was the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2004. She was named to the all-conference team three times and was her team’s captain twice. She earned four letters and was a three-year starter. She is the daughter of Cheryl and William and her twin sister, Meghan, is also a member of the 2006-07 Falcon team. Caitlin is majoring in sociology with minors in criminal justice and Spanish.

Meghan Hunstock Meghan Hunstock returns to the Falcons for her second year of basketball as a junior student at UW-River Falls. She played her first year of collegiate basketball during the 2004-2005 season at North Park University in Chicago, Ill. She spent the 2005-06 season learning the system and improving her game here at River Falls. Hunstock is a scoring threat from inside and out, she plays primarily in the paint but is confident hitting her shot on the perimeter as well. She played high school ball at Minneapolis South High School where she was a three-year starter and three-time All-City player. Not only is Meghan a good athlete, she is a good student as well. Last year she was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and was named to the Dean's List. She is the daughter of William and Cheryl and her twin sister, Caitlin, also plays for the Falcons. Meghan is majoring in business finance.

Kim Sorenson Kim Sorenson starts her third season with the Falcons. After a medical redshirt in 2004-05, Kim made an impact on the perimeter throughout the 2005-06 season averaging 18.5 minutes per game. Her tenacity on defense paid off with 42 steals as well as creating multiple loose balls that her teammates could recover. Kim contributed 42 assists, which was third for the Falcons. Sorenson will be expected to bring her toughness and leadership to the court consistently during the 2006-07 season. Kim played for Blaine High School in Minnesota before joining UWRF for her collegiate career. Kim is majoring in health & human performance - exercise science with a minor in coaching. She is the daughter of Ron and Deb.

Jana Benitz Jana Benitz is back for her second season with the Falcons in 2006-07. Jana competed in 19 games before suffering a season ending knee injury. As a wing guard she was averaging 16 minutes and five points per game. Jana was named UWRF Player of the Game against UW-Platteville. She is determined to get back on the court this year and continue to make a positive impact. Benitz transferred to UWRF from UW-Stout. At Plum City High School she was named to the first team All-Conference for three seasons. Jana was a three-year starter and was twice the team’s captain as a four-year letter winner. She appeared in the All-Northwest All-Star game her senior year. Jana averaged 14 points, six rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals a game. She also competed in volleyball, track and field, as well as several academic areas and community clubs. Jana is an elementary education major with a coaching minor. She is the daughter of Jim and Pam Benitz.

Justine Speckel Justine Speckel joins the Falcons for her second year in 2006-07. She plays the guard position and appeared in seven games last season. Justine is also a member of the Falcon volleyball team. Justine played at Buffalo High School where she started two years and was named to the all-conference team as a senior. She was also her team's MVP in 2005. Justine’s hard work in the classroom also has paid off for her. She made the Dean’s List as a freshman and also made it onto the WIAC Scholastic honor roll in 2005-06. She is the daughter Tim and Patty Speckel and her major is biology with a minor in Spanish.

Janelle Daniels Janelle Daniels is in her first season with the Falcons in 2006-07 and she plays the guard position. She transferred to UWRF from UW-Stout where she played in five games. At Hudson High School Janelle earned three letters and was a one-year starter. She averaged 5.5 assists per game. Daniels was named team captain and was the top three-point percentage shooter her senior season. She also participated in soccer and earned three letters, was a three-year starter and was selected to the conference honorable mention team. Daniels is majoring in health & human performance - exercise science with a minor in health education. She is the daughter of Mike and Cheryl Daniels. |

Kelsie Flanscha Kelsie Flanscha joins the Falcons for her first year of collegiate basketball for the 2006-2007 season. Kelsie should prove to be an excellent addition in the paint for UWRF. Flanscha attended River Falls High School where she earned four letters and was a three-year starter. She was her team’s captain her junior and senior years. Her junior year she was named second team all-conference. Her senior year she made first team all-Ccnference and was Wisconsin 2006 All-State honorable mention. She also earned the River Falls Senior Athletic Award. She is the daughter of Linda and Mike. Kelsie is majoring in art. |

Kelli Hilt Kelli Hilt joins the Falcons after a stellar career at Lakeville North High School. This season she’ll be one of three Lakeville graduates donning the UWRF jersey. For the Panthers, she averaged 10 points, four assists, four rebounds, and three steals per game. She was named team captain and earned all-conference in the tough Lake Conference her senior year. After playing the point position throughout high school Kelli will be seeing time at the wing during the 2006-07 season. Her toughness and ability to see and read the floor will really shine through for the Falcons. Kelli is the daughter of Patti and Brian Hilt. She will be majoring in business administration. |

Krystal Parr Krystal Parr enters into her freshman season with the Falcons coming off of an impressive high school career. At Bloomer High School, Krystal was in the starting line up and earned a spot on the all-conference team all four years of her career. She led her team in three-point shots, assists, and had the best two-point average as well. Krystal was also chosen to be on the WBCA All-Star, All-Chippewa County and second All-Northwest teams. In addition to her achievements on the court, she also obtained the Fellowship of Christian Athletes award. Krystal is an elementary education major with a minor in coaching. She is the daughter of Connie and Dale Parr. |

Tessa Rohl Tessa Rohl joins the Falcons in her first year of collegiate basketball and plays the guard position. Rohl attended Buffalo High School where she earned three letters and was the team captain. She averaged 14 points, five rebounds and five assists in 2004-05. She was named all-conference her junior and senior years and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. Rohl also competed in volleyball and track & field. Academically Rohl was a member of the National Honor Society and took part in Students Stepping Up. She is the daughter of Gerard and Diane. Tessa is majoring in pre-med and biology, with a minor in chemistry. |

Katie Sheets Katie Sheets joins the Falcons in her first year of collegiate basketball and plays at the guard position. Katie had a very successful career playing at Lakeville North High School. Throughout her career, she earned four letters, was a two-year starter, named to the all-conference team in 2004-2005, named St. Paul Pioneer Press All-State in 2005, team captain in 2004-2005, and honorable mention in 2006. In addition to her athletic accomplishments she also received the Lake Conference Scholastic Art Award. She enters into her freshman year recovering from an ACL injury that occurred during her senior season of basketball. Her major is undecided. Katie is the daughter of John and Mary Sheets. |
