2006 Falcon Volleyball Player of the Week

Oct. 30, 2006 Outside Kate Thompson (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) helped lead the Falcons to a 4-1 week. She was named to the River Falls All-Tournament team after helping the Falcons win all four matches played. The Falcons won all four matches in three games. Thompson had 89 kills and averaged 5.23 kills per game. She had a .266 hitting percentage. She finished with four aces and 34 digs. " Kate has had very strong efforts overall," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford. "Her serving is tough and when she plays in the back row, which isn't often, she still gives it her all."

Oct. 23, 2006 Outside hitter Kate Thompson (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) was one of the team's top players in WIAC matches at Oshkosh and Whitewater over the weekend. She led the Falcons in kills in both matches finishing with 15 against Oshkosh and 14 against Whitewater. She hit .283 and averaged 2.16 digs per game and .33 blocks per game.

Oct. 16 , 2006 Middle hitter Andrea Geehan (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. Como Park HS) helped lead the Falcons to a perfect 5-0 week and she was named to the Elmhurst All-Tournament team. Included in the wins were a WIAC victory over Stout and a win over No. 6 ranked Oshkosh. The Falcons won the Elmhurst Tournament championship and stretched their winning streak to 11 straight matches. Geehan, 6-1, averaged 3.94 kills a game with a .328 hitting percentage in the five matches. She led the team in kills against Oshkosh (19) and Concordia (16). She had a .365 hitting percentage against Oshkosh and a .611 hitting percentage against Rockford. Geehan also played great defense at the net leading the Falcons in blocks in every match. She finished with four solo and 21 block assists. She is currently averaging 3.86 kills a game and leads the team with a .289 hitting percentage and 94 total blocks.

Oct. 9, 2006 Outside hitter Kate Thompson (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) helped lead the Falcons to two WIAC wins last weekend at the Karges Center. The Falcons beat No. 21 ranked Platteville, three games to none, and La Crosse, a team that received votes in the AVCA poll, three games to one. Against Platteville she led UWRF with 13 kills. She had a .407 hitting percentage with six digs and four block assists. She also led in kills on Saturday against La Crosse with 26 and had the team's highest hitting percentage with .377. She had 11 digs, one solo block and one block assist. This season she is averaging 3.89 kills a game and has a .206 hitting percentage.

Oct. 2, 2006 Outside hitter Kate Thompson (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) helped lead the Falcons to a 4-1 week and the championship at the Simpson College Tournament played last weekend. In the Webster match she put down her 1,000 th career kill. She now has 1,046 in her career. She led the team with 26 kills against Webster, 18 against Buena Vista and 24 against Wartburg. In five matches she averaged 4.61 kills per game with a .212 hitting percentage. She had 41 digs and eight block assists. Thompson was named to the Simpson All-Tournament team. This year she is averaging 3.73 kills per game.

Sept. 25, 2006 Setter Kat Krtnick (Sr., Fridley, Minn.) played two solid WIAC matches last week to help lead the Falcons to a 1-1 record. She played seven games and led the team with 78 assists. She also had five kills, one service ace, 30 digs and two block assists. "Kat had a steady performance regardless of the situation in our two matches," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford.

Sept. 17, 2006 Middle hitter Andrea Geehan (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. Como Park HS) led the Falcons to a 2-2 record at the St. Benedict Invitational and was named to the All-Tournament team. "She is a solid performer and has proven herself to be one of the best in the region," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford. Geehan led the Falcons in kills in three of the four matches with 15 against St. Benedict, 11 against Simpson and 15 against Buena Vista. She Averaged 3.92 kills a game and had a .333 hitting percentage for the tournament. She was also a strong blocking presence and finished with one solo and nine assists. "She is our go to hitter; other teams have to key on her because she's good at what she does which opens up opportunities for our other hitters," said Ford.

Sept. 11, 2006 Middle hitter Andrea Geehan (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. Como Park HS) helped the Falcons to a 3-2 record. Her years of hard work paid off in the Falcons Tuesday night home opener against Bethel. She not only led her team in kills with 23 and had an impressive .312 hitting percentage, but she hit her 1,000 career kill mark. After the week of plays she has 1,054 career kills. She continued to put up big numbers in the St. Olaf Invitational on Friday and Saturday. In their first match against Coe she led in kills with 13 and in block assists with six. She was also the team leader in kills in their match against Waldorf with 15 and tied for service aces with three. She was named to the All-Tournament team.

Sept. 5, 2006 Outside hitter Molly Thompson (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) helped lead the Falcons to a 2-2 record at the Whitewater Invitational. She played in all 17 games and finished with 47 kills and a .207 kill percentage. She had 43 digs, one solo block, four aces and three assists. The Falcons defeated Wheaton and Aurora and lost to Whitewater and Baldwin-Wallace.
