UW-River Falls junior Tim Pearson was forced into a leadership role this season with the Falcon men's basketball team. Pearson is one of four juniors who hope to bring the program success this year.

The 2-5 (1-3 in the WIAC) Falcons have no seniors on the roster.

"He has a great work ethic," Falcon Coach Jeff Berkhof said. "That's probably one of the strongest qualities about him."

This season, being one of the most experienced players on the team Pearson will get more playing time and he hopes to improve as a basketball player and even as a person.

"I hope to develop my skills and have better relationships with my teammates and friends," Pearson said.

After seven games the former Eau Claire Memorial High School player is fifth on the team in scoring averaging 7.7 points a game. He also averages 3.3 rebounds per outing. He has 15 assists and four steals. He scored a career-high 19 points in last year's game against tonight's opponent, Bethany Lutheran. This year he has recorded a career-high five assists in the game at Superior and a career-high seven rebounds against Macalester.

The field biology major from Eau Claire also said that he hopes to get a lot of work done on his biology research so he can present his findings at a conference like he did last year.

Pearson always wanted to play college basketball if the opportunity presented itself. He got the opportunity to play at River Falls at the last second and hasn't regretted a minute of it. Although growing up around conference rival UW-Eau Claire he said he never wanted to play there.

Pearson has high hopes about the season and thinks it has gone well thus far.

"It's been good," he said. "It's had some ups and downs. We're playing pretty good considering there are no seniors."

Pearson has very full course load this semester and spends a lot of time on his studies and doesn't have a lot of time for much else.

"I just like hanging out with friends," he said. "And I spent a lot of time studying." His study habits have paid off. In high school he was named to the academic All-Big Rivers squad. He also played well on the court and earned honorable mention to the all-conference team. Pearson was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll after the 2005-06 season.

Berkhof also has goals for Person. "He's obviously going to get more minutes so I hope he gets more points," Berkhof said. majoring in psychology and plans on graduating following next season.
