2005 Falcon Volleyball Player of the Week

Oct. 31, 2005 Outside hitter Kate Thompson (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) had four strong matches and was named to the UW-River Falls Trick or Treat All-Tournament team. The Falcons finished 2-2 with one of their wins coming over St. Thomas, ranked No. 13 in the AVCA. Thompson, 5-9, led the Falcons in kills in all four matches, including 22 in the win over St. Thomas. She had 66 kills and averaged 5.07 per game. In the win over Northwestern she had 17 kills and no errors for a .586 hitting percentage. She had a .326 hitting percentage in all matches. The talented outside hitter led the Falcons with four aces against Northwestern and finished with eight total. She also had 33 digs (2.53) and two solo and six block assists. "Kate did an outstanding job of hitting throughout the tourney," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford.

Oct. 24, 2005 Kat Krtnick (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) helped the Falcons to three wins in five matches last week. The Falcons beat Elmhurst, an AVCA ranked team. The two losses came to AVCA ranked teams. Krtnick, who plays both setter and outside hitter, had 29 kills and 120 assists in 17 games. She had a .229 hitting percentage. She finished with 14 aces, 29 digs and two block assists.

Oct. 17, 2005 Outside hitter Kate Thompson (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) was one of the team's top players in three matches last week. "Kate did a great job in the front row and also helped us with her defensive skills," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford. In the team's first match at UW-Superior, Thompson led the Falcons with 20 kills and led the Falcons with a .333 hitting percentage. She also had the most serving aces with four, led the Falcons with two solo and one block assist and was second in digs with 14. In the team's home match against UW-Stevens Point she led her team in kills again with 17 and had the team's highest hitting percentage with .533. She was also second in digs with 11. In eight games she averaged 4.62 kills per game and had a .420 hitting percentage.

Oct. 10, 2005 Middle hitter Andrea Geehan (Jr., St. Paul, Minn. Como Park HS) had a monster week for the Falcons as the team finished 4-1 and won the Platteville Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. She was one of his players named to the Platteville All-Tournament team and this marks her third time in a row as the team's Player of the Week. In the first match against Benedictine, she led the Falcons in kills with 20 and had the highest hitting percentage with .548. Against UW-Platteville, ranked No. 18 in the AVCA poll. She stepped up her game making 21 kills. Against Clarke she had 18 kills. And against Coe she finished with a career match high 29 kills. "Andrea made an almost unheard of 29 kills against Coe. She is really stepping into her own and her efficiency on offense has really taking the pressure off her teammates," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford. For the week she had 102 kills and a .401 hitting percentage. She averaged 5.36 kills per game.

Oct. 3, 2005 Middle hitter Andrea Geehan (Jr., St. Paul, Minn. Como Park HS) played another amazing week of volleyball making this her second time being named the Player of the Week. She led the Falcons in kills against UW-Oshkosh with 14 and had a hitting percentage of .270. She also had three digs and two block assists. Against UW-Whitewater, she led again in kills with 19 and had the highest hitting percentage with .405. She also helped her team with one assist, five digs, and four block assists. Falcon Coach Patti Ford said, "Andrea is really developing into a great player. She helps her team by making the opponent think about where she's going to put the ball and takes a lot of pressure off her teammates."

Sept. 26, 2005 Middle hitter Andrea Geehan (Jr., St. Paul, Minn. Como Park HS) had an outstanding week of play. On Wednesday she helped the Falcons defeat UW-Stout, 3-0, with nine kills and a .348 hitting percentage. She had four block assists. But it was during the weekend UW-Eau Claire Siegenthaler Memorial Tournament that she really stood out. Her outstanding play during the tourney earned her a spot on the nine-player all-tournament team. In their first game against Millikin, a 3-2 loss, she led with 22 kills and had a .356 hitting percentage. She had 10 digs and one solo and five block assists. Against UW-Stevens Point she led in kills again with 14 and had a .481 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win. She had two solo and one block assist. On Saturday, it was Geehan again who led in kills against Stout with 18 and a .359 hitting percentage in the team's 3-0 win. She had one solo and two block assists. She added 12 kills, three solo blocks and one block assist in the team's 3-0 loss to Eau Claire. In the five matches she averaged 4.41 kills and 1.17 blocks per game. She had a .357 hitting percentage for the week. "She really dominated every match she was in and hit and block well," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford.

Sept. 20, 2005 Setter/outside hitter Kat Krtnick (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) played a tough weekend of volleyball. Against UW-Platteville she led her team in assist with 22 and really showed her flexibility as a player when she switched from setter to hitter against La Crosse. "She made great attempts in the hitter role and really worked hard," said Falcon Coach Patti Ford. In the match against La Crosse she had 36 assists and 10 kills. In the two matches she played eight games and had 10 kills. She finished with 58 assists, six aces, 31 digs and one block assist.

Sept. 12, 2005 Outside hitter Kate Thompson (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) lead the Falcons at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament last weekend where UW-RF finished 2-2. They now have a 4-4 record. Thompson played in all 13 games and had 58 kills. She averaged 4.46 kills a game. Her hard work wasn't just as the net as she had 72 digs, an average of 5.53 per game. In the team's first match against Maryville she led in kills with 15 and digs with 19. Against Millikin she tied with her twin sister, Molly, with 16 kills. Against Capital she led the Falcons with 15 kills and had 20 digs, which tied for the team lead. She also had two aces, six assists, three solo blocks and six block assists.

Sept. 6, 2005 Setter Kat Krtnick (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) was one of the team's top players at the Elmhurst Invitational held last weekend. The Falcons finished with a 2-2 record. Krtnick played all 16 games and finished with 102 assists. She averaged 6.38 a game. She had 37 in the team's win over Chicago. She finished with 33 kills, second on the team, and had a .273 hitting percentage. She had 14 kills, which tied for the team lead, in a loss to Oshkosh. She also had six aces, 33 digs, two solo blocks and two block assists. The 33 digs was second most for the Falcons in the tourney. |
