Seven members of the 2005 Falcon softball team have earned team awards. Emily Stahl (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. Como Park HS) was named the team's Most Valuable Player. The first baseman hit .319 and played in 39 games. She was second on the team in doubles (9) and had 10 RBIs. She stole two bases and had a sparkling .989 fielding percentage. Amanda Wojnowiak (Fr., Big Lake, Minn.) earned the team's Best Offensive Player award. Playing both right and center field, she led the Falcons with a .420 batting average. That average is the second highest in a single season in Falcon history. She led the team with 21 runs scored and had a team high 12 doubles and two triples. The 12 doubles is also second in a single season in the Falcon records book. She had 16 RBIs and stole nine bases. Wojnowiak was named to the first All-WIAC team and had a perfect fielding percentage. She was named the team's Player of the Week twice. Emily Rodgers (Sr., Richfield, Minn.) won the team's Best Defensive Player award. Playing both center and right field, she had a perfect season in the field with 47 putouts and seven assists with no errors. She played in 38 games and hit .208. She had three doubles and eight RBIs. She scored 14 runs and stole six bases. Brittany Rathbun (Fr., Rochester, Minn. Mayo HS) and Michelle Kelley (So., Rochester, Minn. Century HS) were named the team's Most Improved Player award winners. Rathbun is a pitcher and Kelley played left field. Rathbun, who earned honorable mention to the 2005 All-WIAC team, had a 5-6 record and four saves. The four saves is a single season record. She had a 2.57 ERA and pitched 90 innings, mostly in relief. She appeared in 34 of the team's 41 games. She walked 17 and struck out 67. Rathbun was twice named the team's Pitcher of the Week. Opponents hit .251 against her. Kelley played in 31 games and hit .214. She scored six runs and had one double and one triple. She knocked in two runs. She stole five bases. She was once named the team's Player of the Week. Michelle Heuser (So., Pulaski, Wis.) earned the team's Most Inspirational/Spirit award. Heuser played left field for the Falcons. A supporter of her teammates, Heuser played in 18 games and hit .120. Used extensively as a pinch runner, she scored seven runs. She had one double and stole one base. Margo Taylor (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) won the team's Most Dedicated award. Taylor, a catcher, played in 14 games and hit .125. She had four RBIs. She knocked in two runs in a 5-4 loss to Whitewater on April 16 and had two RBIs in a 5-4 loss at St. Mary's on April 7. She was the team's bullpen catcher throughout the season. The Falcons finished 18-23 overall and 8-8 in the WIAC. |
