
Four NCHA Men's Teams
Have Won NCAA Titles

UW-Superior won the 2002 NCAA Div. III men's National Championship last weekend and now four Nothern Collegiate Hockey Association teams have won NCAA Championships in the league's 21-year history. No other hockey conference in the nation can claim that four of its teams have won National Championships. UWS beat Plattsburgh, 5-0 in the semifianls and Norwich, 3-2 in overtime to claim the 2002 title. UW-Stevens Point won three straight Div. III titles - 1989, 1990 and
1991. The Pointers came back in 1993 to win a fourth NCAA title. That
year the Pointers beat UWRF, 4-3 in overtime, to claim the title. |
Year-in and year-out
NCHA teams are in the hunt for the NCAA title.
UWS has been in the NCAA tournament in each of the past four years. In all UWS has appeared in the NCAA playoffs in eight years and have won one title, placed second three times, third once and fourth four times. UWS has a 22-14-3 record in NCAA play. UWSP has played in nine tournaments. The Pointers have won four titles and placed second twice. UWSP has a 19-12-3 record in NCAA play. UWRF has made the NCAA field eight times. The Falcons have two NCAA titles, a second-place finish, two third-place finishes and a fourth-place finish. UWRF is 21-9-0 in NCAA play. St. Norbert (four times), Lake Forest (2), Eau Claire (1) and St. Scholastica (1) have also earned spots in the NCAA tournament field. |
