SNC Beats UWRF in NCAA Quarterfinals

St. Norbert defeated UW-River Falls, 3-0, on Saturday night in a NCAA Div. III playoff game at the Cornerstone Arena.

There was no scoring in the first period and St. Norbert led 1-0 after two.

St. Nobert got the only goal of the second period at 14:35. Spencer Carbery scored with an assist to Andrew Derton. Carbery scored after beating a defender on the left side. It was his 19th goal of the year.

In the third period SNC took a 2-0 lead at 3:27 when Connor Hughes scored off a two-on-one. Jon Schultz and Tyler Gow assisted Hughes on his 10th goal of the year. With Falcon goalie Andy Scanlon pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Faron Duthie scored an empty-net goal at 18:44. It was his 16th goal of the year.

Scanlon made 28 saves. St. Norbert goalie Chancy Colquhoun stopped 27 shots to register his seventh shutout of the year and his second straight over UWRF. St. Norbert defeated the Falcons, 2-0, last Saturday in the NCHA Peters Cup championship game. It was SNC’s 35th straight win at home.

St. Norbert advances to the NCAA semifinals which will be played on Friday. The Green Knights will play Plattsburgh State. The NCAA Div. III hockey committee will determine the site for the semifinals on Sunday.
