St. Norbert Loses in NCAA Quarterfinals

St. Norbert, which won the NCHA regular season and Peters Cup playoff championships, lost a 3-2 decision to St. Thomas in the NCAA Div. III quarterfinals played Saturday in Green Bay. UST jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for the win. UWT led 1-0 after one and 3-1 after two. UST scored at 14:54 of the first period, 4:31 and 7:17 of the second. SNC got back to within 3-1 at 16:58 of the socond period when Jason Deitsch scored his 15th goal of the year. Connor Hughes assisted him on the power-play goal. At :33 of the final period, Dietsch scored his second of the game, and 16th of the year, with assists to Spencer Carbery adn Ryan Tew to make it a 3-2 game. But that's as close as SNC could get despite outshooting UST, 20-5 in the third period. SNC outshot the Tommies, 42-24, for the game. |
SNC goalie Kyle Jones made 21 saves and Tommie goalie Zach Sikich stopped 40 shots. St. Thomas is one of only two teams to beat SNC this year - the Tommies also took a 5-3 win at home on Nov. 5. |
