SNC Wins Fourth Straight NCHA Regular Season Title

St. Norbert won two games last weekend and claimed its fourth straight NCHA regular season championship. SNC (19-2-2) beat UW-River Falls and UW-Stout by 5-0 scores to improve to 11-0-1 in NCHA play. They lead second place UW-Superior by five points and with only four points remaining, have clinched the title and home ice throughout the league playoffs. UWS (15-2-6) split last weekend on the road. They took a 10-2 win at UW-Eau Claire on Friday, but lost a 7-5 decision at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. UWS has clinched second place in the league standings. UWRF (14-7-2) had a tough weekend on the road losing at SNC and at Lake Forest on Saturday, 3-2. The Falcons are in third place in the NCHA with a 7-5-0 record and 14 points. UWSP (11-9-3) trails UWRF by only one point. The Pointers picked up two NCHA wins last weekend - 4-2 on Friday over St. Scholastica and the win over UWS on Saturday. The sweep gives the Pointers a shot at finishing as high as third place in the final standings. LFC (10-12-1) also swept two home games. They beat UW-Stout, 6-3, on Friday and topped UWRF on Saturday. The two wins improved LFC to 6-6-0 in NCHA play and they have 12 points. They trailed third place UWRF by just two points and fifth place UWSP by just one. |
St. Scholastica (5-13-5) picked up an important point with a 5-5 overtime tie at UWEC on Saturday. CSS is now in sixth place with a 2-8-2 record and six points. UWSt and UWEC are tied for seventh place with 1-8-3 records
and five points. UWSt (8-11-4) lost two road games and UWEC (8-11-4) picked
up one point at home. The two teams play each other on Friday. The final weekend of action has eight games. On Friday, LFC is at UWS, SNC goes to CSS, UWSP is at UWRF and UWEC is at UWSt. On Saturday, LFC is at CSS, SNC is at UWS, UWEC is at UWRF and UWSP is at UWSt. The NCHA playoffs open on Feb. 18-19. The top four teams in the final standings will host first round games which is a best two out of three game series with the use of a minigame if needed. The semifinals will be played Feb. 26 with the finals set for March 5. All games will be at the site of the highest seeded teams in the pairing. |
