St. Norbert Picked to Win 2003 Men's NCHA Title

St. Norbert has been picked by the league coaches to win the 2003 NCHA championship in the annual Coaches Poll.

The Green Knights, who won the regular-season title in 2002, picked up three first place votes and 59 total points. SNC finished 12-0-2 in NCHA play last year to win the title. They finished 23-5-3 overall.

UW-Superior, last year's NCHA Peters Cup playoff champions, are picked to finish second. The Yellowjackets also had three first place votes and finished with 55 votes. UWS went on to win the 2002 NCAA Div. III National Championship and finished 24-5-5 overall.

UW-River Falls was picked to finish third. The Falcons, who finished in fourth place last year and were 18-9-2 overall, picked up two first place votes and had 50 points.

UW-Stevens Point finished fourth in the voting. The Pointers finished in third place in the NCHA last year and were 18-9-2 overall. The Pointers won the NCHA playoffs third place game and earned 44 points in this year's voting.

UW-Eau Claire finished fourth in the voting with 22 points, just topping Lake Forest which finished sixth with 21 points. The Blugolds finished fifth last year in the NCHA and were 12-13-2 overall. LFC finished in a tie for sixth place last year and finished 9-15-2 overall.

The College of St. Scholastica finished seventh in this year's poll with 19 points. The Saints finished in eighth place last were and were 5-22-0. UW-Stout picked up 17 votes and finished eighth in this year's poll. In 2002 the Blue Devils finished in a tie for sixth place and had a 11-15-1 overall record.

SNC starts the NCHA season on Tuesday, Oct. 22 when they play at Marian College at 7:30 p.m.
