Mattson Named to AVCA All-American Second Team

Melissa Mattson has been named to the 1999 AVCA second All-American volleyball team.

Mattson, a 6-1, junior middle hitter from Alden, Minn., was second on the team with 424 kills and she led the team wiht a .304 hitting percentage. She finished second in blocks with 19 solo and 97 assists.

"She exemplifies the type of person who is an Al-American," coach Patti Ford said. "She plays a consistent game, works hard, and has perfected the slide maneuver which she excels at. She is very deserving of the honor." Mattson was named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region team in 1998 and 1999 and to the first All-WIAC teams in 1998 and 1999.

The Falcons finished their season with a 30-7 overall record and won the WIAC regular season title with an 8-0 record. The Falcons competed in the 1999 NCAA Div. III championship for the fourth time in the last five years.

Mattson joins Cara Gustafson and Jen Frodl as Falcons who have been named All-Americans. Gustafson and Frodl won the honor in 1996.
