ZumMallen, Tvrdik Named to All-Region Team

Falcon volleyball players Melissa Tvrdik (Jr., Farwell, Minn.) and Karen ZumMallen (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) have been named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region team.

Tvrdik, who was named to the first All-WIAC in 2002 and given honorable mention to the team in 2001, was second on the team with 414 kills and she had a team high .345 hitting percentage. The hitter was third in aces with 49 and had 135 digs. She led the Falcons with 17 solo and 133 total blocks.

ZumMallen, who was named to the 2002 All-WIAC first team, led the Falcons with 448 kills and had a .234 hitting percentage. The hitter led the Falcons wth 58 aces and was second with 537 digs. She had 13 solo and 58 total blocks.

The Falcons finished the 2002 season with a 31-8 overall record. UWRF tied for first place in the WIAC regular season standings with a 7-1 record, and finished second in the WIAC Tournament, losing to UW-Whitewater in the title match.
