Falcon Volleyball Player of the Week

Oct. 29, 2001

Outside hitter Krystle Brune (So., St. Paul, Minn., Tarten HS) helped the Falcons to a 4-1 record last week. In 15 games she had 66 kills and a .478 hitting percentage. She also had seven assists, six blocks and five block assists.

 

 

 

 

 

Oct. 22, 2001

Hitter Melissa Tvrdik (So., Farwell, Minn. Minnewaska Area HS) played two solid matches for the Falcons last week. In the two matches she played seven games, had 13 kills and a .131 hitting percentage. She had four digs and two solo and nine block assists. "Melissa continues to fight and gives as much as she can to the team," Coach Patti Ford said.

 

 

 

Oct. 15, 2001

Outside hitter Krystle Brune (So. St. Paul, Minn. Tartan HS) helped the Falcons beat two nationally ranked opponents last week – Stout and Central. Brune totaled 56 kills to lead the Falcons. She had a .263 hitting percentage and nine block assists. Agaisnt Stout she led the team with 15 kills and a .393 hitting percentage and four block assists. Against Central she finished with 10 kills and three block assists. "She’s a really steady performer," Coach Patti Ford said.

 

 

 

 

Oct. 8, 2001

Outside hitter Krystle Brune (So., St. Paul, Minn. Tartan HS) led the Falcons to a pair of WIAC victories last weekend. Brune compiled 32 kills, five assists, six digs and six block assists. She posted a .354 attack percentage Saturday against UW-La Crosse and a .290 attack percentage Friday at UW-Platteville, against a team that is ranked No. 14 in NCAA Div. III.




 

Oct. 1, 2001

Jennifer Braun, So., OH came off the bench to provide a spark for UW-River Falls at the UW-Whitewater Tournament. She pitched in 40 kills and 59 digs on the weekend, including a 20-kill, 19-dig performance against No.3-ranked Central College Saturday in the Falcons’ final match of the event.
"(Braun) has done a tremendous job for us off the bench," Falcon coach Patti Ford said. "She ‘s probably the best jumper on the team. She had a really steady weekend."

 

 

Sept. 24, 2001

Melissa Tvrdik, (So., Farwell, Minn. Minnewaska HS) played a key role in helping the Falcons to a 2-0 WIAC start. Against UW-Stevens Point Saturday, she collected 11 kills in 18 attempts for a .556 attack percentage. Tvrdik pitched in four kills and six digs in the Falcons victory over UW-Superior Wednesday. In the two matches she averaged 3.14 kills a game and had a .356 hitting percentage. "She demonstrates a great desire to get better," Falcon coach Patti Ford said.

 

 

 

 

Sept. 17, 2001

Outside hitter Karen ZumMallen (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.)
had a monster statistical performance at the Central College (Iowa) Invitational, held Friday and Saturday. The junior outside hitter collected 36 kills and 79 digs in the four-match event. She averaged 2.57 kills a game. She had five aces and six block assists.

 

 

 

 

 

Sept. 10, 2001

Michelle Mattson (Sr., Alden, Minn. Alden-Conger HS) was the lone Falcon to capture all-tournament team honors at the UW-Platteville Tournament, held Friday and Saturday, at Williams Fieldhouse. In the team's five matches she had 44 kills, averaged 2.44 kills a game, had six aces, 55 digs and eight blocks.





Sept. 4, 2001

Middle Hittter Melissa Tvrdik (So., Farwell, Minn.) led the Falcons to a 3-1 record at the UWRF Tourney and has been named the team’s Player of the Week. She was named to the all-tourney team after finishing with 50 kills and a .410 hitting percentage. She averaged 3.33 blocks a game and also had 10 blocks. "Melissa led us to a 3-1 record with our only loss to nationally-ranked St. Olaf," coach Patti Ford said.
