Meet the Falcons

Andrea Ellsworth

Andrea Ellsworth is a spirited and hard-working competitor. Andrea has worked extremely hard at the defensive and passing parts of the game, which has resulted in her becoming a solid ball control player. Playing in 110 games during the 1999 championship season Andrea is a central ingredient in the team's chemistry. Her maturity will be an important part in the development of this yearıs team. She is the daughter of Greg and Meredith. She is majoring in social work.

Melissa Mattson

Melissa Mattson brings the most experience to the nationally-ranked Falcons. An AVCA second team All-Americian and two-time all-midwest and WIAC performer, Melissa is a central ingredient in the Falcon line-up. Melissa will be one of the biggest threats offensively. Very few opponents can stop her slide attack. During the 1999 campaign Melissa recorded 3.01 kills per game at a .304 hitting percentage. She is the daughter of Dennis and Nancy. She is majoring in health and human performance.

Holly Olson

Holly Olson returns to the Falcons line up as the teamıs top setter. This veteran will take on the challenges of running the Falcon offense against some of the top teams regionally and nationally. Hollyıs experience will be a definite advantage. She is the intangible to helping the Falcons return to the NCAA post-season tournament. A two-time all WIAC and AVCA All-Midwest performer, Holly is on pace to re-write the Falcons records book. She currently ranks second in career assist and is in position to surpass the 5,000 career assist mark. She is the daughter of Larry and Sue. She is majoring in horticulture.

Leigh Saxton started in 121 matches for the Falcons during the 1999 season when she collected 1.97 digs per game. Leigh is a solid ball-control player who will do the majority of the passing this season. Defensively, she is a great player, who reads well and has the right "attitude" to keeping the ball in play. She is the daughter of Bob and Peggy. She is majoring in business.

Michelle Mattson

Michelle Mattson was positioned to step into a starting role, when an off-season ACL injury occurred. Michelle is expected to become a key member of the Falcon outside hitting corps as she regains full strength. Michelle is an exceptional athlete who has exceeded expectations and is showing steady improvement and uncommon determination in getting back to full strength. She is the daughter of Dennis and Nancy. She is majoring in business.

Joy Nicholson

Joy Nicholson returns to the Falcon line-up after a very successful sophomore season. A high-flying kill artist at outside hitter, Joy had another outstanding season and is positioned to take her game to that "next level." During the 1999 season Joy collected 493 kill and averaged 3.65 kills per game, and was named to the first All-WIAC and AVCA Midwest region teams. She is the daughter of Gerald and LaJean. She is majoring in environmental studies.

Jennifer Haake is considered a "sleeper" for the Falcon volleyball program. She is another good athlete who has worked extremely hard during the off-season to improve physically and technically. She will get valuable experience this season competing against All-American Melissa Mattson in practice. She is the daughter of Laurie Haake. She is majoring in health and human performance.

 

Stacy Hinz

Stacy Hinz had a great spring season for the Falcons where she experienced valuable playing time. Stacy has come a long way since her first year and there is no doubt that she can give the Falcons valuable minutes at either the outside or right side hitting positions. She is a steady and reliable performer who hits the ball as hard as anyone in the WIAC. She is the daughter of Tom and Louise. She is majoring in elementary education.

 

Hillary Keene

Hillary Keene is an exceptional athlete with a tremendous desire to succeed. When you put those two things together you get a quality player. Hillary is moving from a setting position to defense and has made the transition quickly. Like most players new to the defensive side of the game it will take Hillary a bit of time to develop into a top WIAC defensive performer. She is the daughter of Barb and Jeff Chiszar and Mike Keene. She is majoring in chemistry/pre-med.

 

Sara McKee

Sara McKee played in 100 games during her first season where she tallied 82 kills and 61 blocks. Sara has come a long way and the Falcons look for her to take yet another step during the 2000 season. She will be a key factor in balancing out the potent Falcon attack. It will be important for Sara to use her talent and experience throughout the season as the Falcons get set to defend their WIAC title. She is the daughter of Keith and JoAnne. She is majoring in business and health and human performance.

A hard-working athlete, Karen ZumMallen has transformed herself into a reliable outside hitter for the Falcons. Karen is a solid ball-control player who needs to be in the Falcon line-up. Hittingwise Karen has come around. She plays very smart, it doesnıt matter if the block is formed or not, Karen has the talent to hit around it. She does whatever she needs to get the job done. She is the daughter of Mike and Brenda. She is majoring in accounting.

Jennifer Braun

Jennifer Braun is a 2000 graduate of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, Minn., High School where she was a three-sport athlete. Jennifer tested as one of the top athletes during pre-season, and owns one of the best vertical jumps on the team at 27 inches. Jennifer is a solid player and has great court sense. She plays the game with efficiency and detail. She commits very few errors and finds a way to get the ball to the floor. The Falcons look for Jennifer to contend for an outside hitting position. She is the daughter of Bruce and Valerie. She is majoring in psychology.

 

Krystle Brune

Krystle Brune is a 2000 graduate of Tartan, Minn., High School where she earned All-State honors during her junior and senior seasons. She was also Tartanıs Athena Award winner as the outstanding female student/athlete. A hard-hitting and smooth athlete Krystle will step into a starting role as an outside hitter. Like most first-year players she will look to improve her passing and defensive skills. She is the daughter of Ron and Kathy. She is majoring in health and human performance.

 

Sara Halverson

Sarah Halverson comes into the Falcon volleyball program after having a highly successful high school and club career. Sarah is a 2000 graduate of Apple Valley, Minn., High School, where she was named her team's most valuable player. Sarah is a "natural" at the passing and defensive parts of the game. Look for her to contend for playing time and add depth to the Falcon back row. She is the daughter of Jane Halverson. She is majoring in communications.

 

Amy Lundberg

A 2000 graduate of Bloomington, Minn., Kennedy High School, Amy Lundberg was a four-year letter winner and three-time All-Lake Conference performer. Amy looks to contend for playing time and add depth to the Falcon setting corp. She is very athletic and displays amazing court savvy. She looks to continue a fine lineage of Falcon setters. She is the daughter of Dave and Sue. She is majoring in communications.

Erin Olberholtzer comes to the Falcon volleyball program with a great amount of success. Her Fargo, N. D., North High School team played in the state championship match during her tenure. They won the North Dakota State High School Championship her senior year en route to an undefeated season and Erin was named All-State. You canıt train what Erin brings to the program. She has been in a successful program and that experience will be an advantage as she prepares for the upcoming season. She is the daughter of Carl and Carol. She is majoring in health and human performance.

Molly Schock is an all-round athlete who can help the Falcons as either a setter or defensive specialist. Molly has great instincts for the game and fires a dangerous serve. She is the daughter of Ron and Debbie. She is majoring in health and human performance.

Melissa Tvrdik is a young middle blocker who will be relied upon to step into a major role in 2000. Melisaa came into the program last spring and has made dramatic improvements technically and physically over the past summer. She brings a lightning-fast armswing and strong slide hitting to the offense. She is the daughter of Douglas and Theresa. She is majoring in psychology.
