Falcons Finish Fifth at WIAC Meet
Oct. 20, 2002
The Falcon women's tennis team placed fifth at the WIAC Meet held over
the weekend in Madison.
The Falcons finished with 24 points at the meet. Combined with the three
points the team earned for a 2-4 WIAC dual meet record, the Falcons finished
with nine total points to place fifth in the final overall WIAC standings.
The finish in the regular season conference standings accounts for one-third
of the criteria, while the WIAC meet accounts for the remaining two-thirds.
At No. 1 singles, Jordan Anderson placed fifth overall. She lost her
first match to Whitewater's Jennifer Stamm, 6-4, 7-6. She then defeated
Stout's Rachael Weber, 6-0, 6-0. In the match for fifth place she defeated
Stevens Point's Amber Wilkowski, 6-0, 6-1.
At No. 2, Amanda Gray also placed fifth. She lost to La Crosse's Jessica
White, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 in her first match. She received a bye in the second
and won the fifth place match over Stout's Tanya Petcher, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
At No. 3, Mary Metzer placed sixth. She opened with a lost to Whitewater's
Autum Wilkowski, 6-2, 6-2. She then defeated UWSP's Tiffany Serpico, 6-3,
6-0. But she lost in the fifth place match to Stout's Lauren Patient,
6-3, 6-0.
At No. 4, Meredith Verberne also placed fifth. She lost a first round
match to Oshkosh's Lauren Young, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. She came back to beat
Stout's Meghan Fieber, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. She won the fifth place match over
Stevens Point's Gretchen Weddig, 6-1, 6-4.
At No. 5, Megan Knobloch earned a fourth place finish. She opened with
a 6-3, 6-2 win over Oshkosh's Michelle Baur, She then lost to Eau Claire's
Becky Hollinger, 6-1, 6-4. In the match for third place she lost to Whitewater's
Maggie Krueger, 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 6, Amber Weissinger lost to Oshkosh's Allison Orzech, 7-6, 6-1,
to open her competition. She came back to beat Stevens Point's Rachel
Ferge, 6-3, 6-4. But she lost in the match for fifth place to Stout's
Tina Rodin, 6-4, 6-4.
In Friday's competition the Falcons No. 1 doubles team
of Anderson and Gray placed third.
Anderson and Gray, seeded fifth in the tourney, beat the No. 4 seeded
team of Kristen Mader and Erica Schmelzer of La Crosse, 8-5. The round
two the Falcon pair lost the No 1 team from Eau Claire, Laurie Alonso
and Alison Hover, 8-5. In the match for third place the Falcons beat the

The No. 2 Falcon team of Mary Metzer and Meredith Verberne lost to the

two they lost to the Stout team of Tina Rodin and Rachael Weber, 8-4.
Falcons Compete at WIAC Meet

The Falcons No. 1 doubles team of Jordan Anderson and
Amanda Gray placed third at the WIAC meet being held in Madison.
Anderson and Gray, seeded fifth in the tourney, beat the No. 4 seeded
team of Kristen Mader and Erica Schmelzer of La Crosse, 8-5. The round
two the Falcon pair lost the No 1 team from Eau Claire, Laurie Alonso
and Alison Hover, 8-5. In the match for third place the Falcons beat the

The Falcons lost a tough match to La Crosse on Saturday.
La Crosse took 8 points, but River Falls Jordan Anderson defeated La Crosse
player Kristen Mader to take 1 point..
The Falcons, now 9-6 overall and 2-4 in the WIAC, will compete in the
WIAC Tourney on Friday.

over Ripon College Saturday morning at the Knowles Center.

The Falcon tennis team dropped a
close 5-4 decision in the team's first match of the season at St. Norbert
on Friday.
The Falcons won three points in doubles, but only one in singles play.
At No. 5 singles, Megan Knobloch came back to take a 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4
win. Three of the six doubles matches went to three sets. At No. 1 doubles,
the team of Jordan Anderson and Amandy Gray won, 6-2, 6-4. At No 2, Mary
Metzer and Meredith Verberne won, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 and at No. 3, Amber Weissinger
and Knobloch won, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
