Falcon Meghann Mulligan has been named the 2001 Judy Kruckman Women's
Tennis Scholar-Athlete. WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner made the announcement
at last weekend's WIAC Championships.
Mulligan, a senior from Coon Rapids, Minn., is majoring in health and
human performance with a minor in coaching and carries a 3.473 grade point
average. She is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor
Roll and has been named to the River Falls Dean's List the past two years.
Mulligan also received the Marcell K. Lynum Scholarship for the 1998-99
academic year. In addition, she becomes the first student-athlete in the
school's history to win the conference's women's tennis scholar-athlete
award.
Mulligan, a two-year team captain, helped the Falcons to a fourth-place
finish in the conference standings this season with a pair of third-place
finishes at the WIAC Tournament. She finished third at No. 2 singles and
No. 2 doubles. The fourth-place finish by the Falcons is their best since
the 1991 season when they finished third.
Mulligan is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Alcohol/Drug
Program Committee, the Community/Educational Outreach Committee and the
Chancellor's Coalition on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Committee. She
has also worked as a tutor on campus and at River Falls area elementary
schools.
She is also a member of the Falcon fastpitch team and was named to the
first All-WIAC team in 2000 and received honorable mention to the team
in 2001. In 2000 she was named to the third All-Great Lakes Region team.
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is sponsored by Culver's. In order to be
nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have minimum
3.25 grade point average, be in their last year of competition,
or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a
minimum of two years.
