Falcon Swimmers of the Week

Feb. 10, 2003

Women
Amy Bowe (Jr., Austin, Minn.)
had some strong swims in meets against Stevens Point and La Crosse last week. At UWSP she had a time of 2:49.24 in the 200 IM and a 1:26.02 in the 100 fly. She finished fifth in both events. Against La Crosse, She placed fifth in the 200 IM in 2:52.79 and sixth in the 100 fly in 1:28.35

Men
Ryan Smaagard (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.)
and Jon Jarvis (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) both had some good times in meets against Stevens Point and La Crosse last week. Against Stevens Point, Smaagard finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.6. Against UWLC he placed fifth in the 200 IM in 2:10.24 and second in the 100 fly in 56.71. Against UWSP, Jarvis finished second in the 200 IM in 2:11.35 and second in the 100 back in 1:02.8. Against UWLC, he finished third in the 200 IM in 2:09.82 and second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.25.

Feb. 3, 2003

Women
Laura Schultz (So., Ripon)
and Kelly Deters (So., Sauk Rapids, Minn. Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) helped lead the Falcons to a 1124-95 win at St. Mary’s Saturday. Schultz won the 200 IM in 2:24.58 and the 500 free in 5:50.16. Deters won the 50 free in 26.07 and the 100 free in 57.45.

Men
Dan Kessenich (Fr., Oneida, Wis. Pulaski HS)
had some strong swims for the Falcons in the team’s dual meet at St. Mary’s on Saturday. He finished third in the 200 IM in 2:25.51 and third in the 100 back in 1:06.

Women
Megan Broskoff (Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.)
was one of the team’s top swimmers in the Falcons dual meet with UW-Eau Claire. She won the 200 IM in 2:22.38, the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.93 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.99.
Men
Brandon VanVleet (Jr., Grandy, Minn. Cambridge-Isanti HS) had some outstanding swims in the team’s dual meet with UW-Eau Claire. He took first place in the 50 free in 21.75, in the 100 free in 47.96 and in the 100 fly in 56.9.

 

 

Jan. 21, 2003

Women
Kenzie Flanscha (Sr., River Falls, Wis)
had some strong swims at the St. Catherine Invitaitonal held Saturday. She finished first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 200 backstroke.

Men
Ryan Hawke (So., Little Canada, Minn. Roseville HS) finished strong in two events at the St. Catherine Invitaitonal held Saturday. He placed first in the 400 IM and second in the 200 backstroke.

Women
Megan Broskoff (Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.)
won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the Titan Invitational held last weekend. She won the 100 event in 1:09.35 and the 200 event in 2:31.38. She also placed third in the 200 IM in a time of 2:22.33.

Men
Brandon VanVleet (Jr., Grandy, Minn. Cambridge-Isanti HS)
won the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events at the Titan Invitational held last weekend. He won the 50 free in 22.18, the 100 free in 49.09 and the 200 free in 1:49.58.

 

 

Nov. 25, 2002

Women
Kelly Deters (So., Sauk Rapids, Minn. Sauk Rapids-Rice HS)
swam in four events for the Falcons at the WIAC Relays last weekend. The 200 free relay team finished fifth in a time of 1:48.32. The 200 medley relay team finished sixth in 2:01.88. She helped the Falcons to an eighth place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:26.79 and the 300 fly team finished 10th in 3:42.14.

Men
Brandon VanVleet (Jr Grandy, Minn. Cambridge-Isanti HS)
swam in five events at the WIAC Relays held last weekend. The 200 free relay team finished third in a time of 1:30.66, the best showing of the meet for the Falcons. The 400 medley team finished eighth in 4:05.25 and the 1500 free team finished fourth in 16:19.81. The 300 backstroke team finished sixth in 3:10.37 and the 400 free relay team finished fifth in 3:29.66.

 

 

 

Nov. 11, 2002

Women
Megan Broskoff (Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.) won all three of her individual events scoring 27 points for the Falcons against Macalester. In the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.66), she finished almost 20 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. In the 500-yard freestyle, she came in with a time of 5:46.48 to place first, and in the 200-yard individual medley she won the event in 2:22.5.

Men
Chad Goetsch (Plymouth, Wis.)
, sophomore, had two second place finishes in the meet with Macalester. He finished in the 1650-yard in 19:23.18 and the 500-yard free in 5:28.40. The 500-yard freestyle was close. Goetsch was touched out by less than a second for first place.

 

 

 

 

Nov. 4, 2002

Women
Kelly Deters (So., Sauk Rapids, Minn. Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) and Megan Broskoff (Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.) both had good meets for the Falcons against Hamline on Friday. Deters won the 50 free in 26.55. Broskoff won the 200 breaststroke in 2:50.51. Both were members of two relays teams that placed first. The 400 medley team finished in 4:26.13 and the 400 free relay team finished in 3:57.49.

Men
Brandon Van Vleet (Jr Grandy, Minn. Cambridge-Isanti HS)
had two strong races for the Falcons in the team's dual meet win over Hamline on Friday. He won the 500 free in 5:13.2 and the 50 free in 22.37.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oct. 21, 2002

Women
Laura Schultz (So., Ripon, Wis.) had two strong meets for the Falcons last weekend. She came in with a second place time of 2:26.99 in the 200-yard individual medley against Oshkosh.

Men
Ryan Smaagard (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had a UWRF top-10 time in
his first two individual swims against Oshkosh. With his time of 1:07.18, he took the eighth fastest time ever swam in the 100-yard breaststroke. It was a fist place finish. He was also able to take another first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.98. This placed him ninth on the UWRF top-10 list. He was one of the team’s top swimmers in the team’s two meets last weekend.

Oct. 14, 2002

Women
Megan Broskoff (Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.) was the top Falcon and placed fifth overall at the Mankato Pentathlon held Saturday. She had a combined time of 3:09.46. She had a time of 27.13 in the free, a 32.7 in the back, a 32.7 in the breaststroke, a 30.59 in the fly and a 1:06.34 in the IM.

Men
Ryan Smaagard (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.)
was the top Falcon finisher at the Mankato Pentathlon held Saturday. He finished second overall with a combined time of 2:50.11 He had a time of 23.25 in the free, a 30.41 in the back, a 29.93 in the breaststroke, a 25.62 in the fly and a 1:00.9 in the IM.
