Men's Swim Team Takes Fifth

Mar. 1, 2002

The Falcon men took fifth in the six-team UW-La Crosse Last Ditch meet Friday.

Gustavus Adolphus led the competition with a team score of 146, followed by UW-Stevens Point 93, UW-Whitewater 87, Alma 70, UW-River Falls 63, and La Crosse 16.

Brandon VanVleet won the 50 yard freestyle in 21.72 seconds.

Swim Teams Competing at WIAC Meet

Feb. 24, 2002

The Falcon women's and men's swim teams competed in the third and final day of the WIAC Meet held at UW-Whitewater on Saturday.

In the women's final team standings, La Crosse won the title with 1,223 points followed by Stevens Point 1,216, Oshkosh 616, Eau Claire 599, the Falcons 393 and Whitewater 377. In the men's division, Stevens Point claimed the title with 1,190 points followed by La Crosse 959, Eau Claire 821, Whitewater 687, Oshkosh 463 and River Falls 282.

For the women, Megan Broskoff placed second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.53 and set a school record. Amber Wuollet placed 10th in the 200 fly with a time of 2:23.54. Deb Schreckenghost placed eighth in the 1650 free in 19:58.46. Kenzie Flanscha led the team in the 200 back with a 13th place finish in 2:23.99. In the 100 free, Deanna Ek-Pangerl placed 15th in 58.17. The Falcon 4x400 free relay team iof Amy LaMott, Logan Baker, Kristy Leland and Alison York placed sixth in 4:10.77.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet placed second in the 100 free in 47.67. He set a school record. Chad Goetsch placed 10tth in the 1650 free in 18:13.45 and 13th in the 200 fly in 2:15.21. Eli Eschenbauch placed 17th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:42.86. The Falcon 4x400 relay team of VanVleet, Jon Jarvis, Ryan Hawke and Goetsch placed fifth in 3:29.25.

 

Swim Teams Compete at WIAC Meet on Friday

The Falcon women's and men's swim teams competed in the first day of the WIAC Meet held Friday at UW-Whitewater.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet placed third in the 200 free in 1:46.17. Ryan Hawkje placed 12th in the 400 IM in 4:46.34. Chad Goetsch placed 12th in the 100 fly in 57.97. The 880 yard free relay team of Hawke, VanVleet, Jon Jarvis and Goetsch placed fifth in 7:31.16.

For the women, Megan Broskoff led the team with a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.09. Kenzie Flanscha was ninth in the 100 back in 1:05.04. Emily Genal placed 15th in the 400 IM in 5:20.84. In the 100 fly Kelly Deters was 15th in 1:08.16. Deb Schreckenghost placed 11th in the 200 free in 2:05.58. The 800 relay team of Broskoff, Deanna Ek-Pangerl, Amber Wuollet and Schreckenghost placed fourth in 8:21.53.

Stevens Point led in the men's team standings with 829 points followed by La Crosse 627, Eau Claire 613, Whtiewater 447, Oshkosh 375, and the Falcons with 193. In the women's event, La Crosse was ahead with 834 points followed by Stevens Point, 809, Eau Claire and Oshkosh with 457, Whitewater 265 and River Falls 264.

 

Swim Teams Competing at WIAC Meet

Feb. 23, 2002

The Falcon women's and men's swim teams competed in the first day of the WIAC Meet held Thursday at UW-Whitewater with Brandon VanVleet having a record-setting day.

For the men, VanVleet won the 50 free in a time of 21.53. The time is a school record. VanVleet had set the record (21.8) two weeks ago. The UWRF 200 free relay team of Ryan Hawke, Jon Jarvis, Chad Goetsch and VanVleet finished third in 1:31.21. Hawke was the team's top finisher in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.42 and he placed 15th. The medley relay team of Hawke, Eli Eschenbauch, Goetsch and Jarvis placed fifth in 4:00.35.

For the women, the 200 free relay team of Amber Wuollet, Deb Schreckenghost, Deanna Ek-Pangerl and Laura Schultz finished fourth in 1:46.77. Wuollet was the team's top finisher in the 500 free - she placed 10th in 5:32.5. Megan Broskoff led the Falcons in the 200 IM with a ninth place finish in 2:20.67. In the 50 free Kelly Deters led UWRF with a time of 25.99 and she placed 14th. The medley relay team of Abby Olson, Rebekah Goodspeed, Emily Genal and Alison York finished sixth in 4:40.4.

Stevens Point led in the men's team standings with 344 points followed by Eau Claire 282, La Crosse 273, Whtiewater 179, Oshkosh 172 and RF 100. In the women's standings, La Crosse led with 357 followed by Stevens Point 347, Eau Claire 204, Oshkosh 201, RF 131 and Whitewater 91.

 

Swim Teams Drop Dual Meets at UW-La Crosse

Feb. 8, 2002

The Falcon women's and men's swim teams dropped dual meets at UW-La Crosse Friday night.

The UWLC women won 118-91 and the UWLC men won, 126-37.

For the women, Megan Broskopf won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.38.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet won the 100 free in 47.97.

The Falcons will next compete in the WIAC Championships on Feb. 21-23 at UW-Whitewater.

Swim Teams Split With St. Mary's

Feb. 2, 2002

The Falcon women's swim team defeated St. Mary's, 160-66, but the men lost, 123-105, in action Saturday afternoon.

For the women, Amber Wuollet win the 1,650 free in 19:50.32. Deanna Ek-Pangerl won the 200 free in 2:09.54. Kenzie Flanscha won the 100 back in 1:06.42 and the 200 back in 2:26.06. Megan Broskoff won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.91, the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.97 and the 200 IM in 2:23.75. Emily Genal won the 200 fly in 2:39.31. Kelly Deters captured the 50 free in 26.43 and Laura Schultz won the 100 free in 58.34. Deb Schreckenghost captured the 500 free in 5:435.5.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet set a school record in the 50 free with a time of 21.8. He also won the 500 free in 5:16.28 and the 200 IM in 2:10.19. Jon Jarvis won the 200 free in 1:54.87, the 100 fly in 59.47 and the 100 free in 51.25. . Chad Goetsch won the 200 fly in 2:26.42.

Friday the Falcons will travel to UW-La Crosse for a meet that starts at 6 p.m.

Swim Teams Lose at UWEC

Jan. 25, 2002

The Falcon men's and women's swim teams lose dual meets at UW-Eau Claire Friday night.

The women's team dropped a 164.5-74.5 decision and the men's squad lost, 175-41.

For the women, Deb Schreckenghost won the 1,000 free in 11:46.71. Kristine Leland won the 200 free in 2:32.17. Megan Broskoff won the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.81.

For the men, Jon Jarvis won the 50 free in 23.31 and Brandon VanVleet won the 100 free in 49.52.

Friday the Falcons will host St. Mary's at 6 p.m. at the Karges Pool.

Swim Teams Meet UWSP

Jan. 19, 2002

The Falcon men's and women's swim teams lost dual meets to UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon at the River Falls High School pool.

The women lost, 133-68, and the men lost, 148-27.

For the women, Kenzie Flanscha won the 100 back in 1:06.49. Abby Olson placed second in the event in 1:08.9 and Amber Wuollet placed second in the 1,000 free in 11:51.01.

For the men, Ryan Hawke placed second in the 100 back in 1:03.83. Chad Goetsch plaed third in the 1,000 free in 11:40.74 and third in the 500 free in 5:44. Jon Jarvis was third in the 200 free in 1:56.77. Brandon VanVleet was third in the 50 free in 22.39 and was third in the 100 free in 49.04.

The Falcons will next swim at UW-Eau Claire on Friday with action starting at 6 p.m.

Swim Teams Compete at Titan Invitational

Dec. 8, 2001

The Falcon men's and women's swim teams both were unable to overcome Luther College Saturday. The women lost 160-119 while the men lost 185-65.

For the women, Megan Broskoff won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.63, the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.425, and the 200 IM in 2:25.23. Amber Wuollet won the 1000 free in 11:28.84 and the 500 free in 5:39.52. She also placed second in the 200 fly in 2:30.15. Erin Tierney won the 100 fly in 1:06.68 and placed third in the 200 fly in 2:33.30. Deb Schreckenghost took second in the 200 free in 2:07.63 and the 500 free in 5:43.60. Abby Olson placed second in the 100 back in 1:08.65 and the 200 back in 2:30.65. Deanna Ek-Pangerl placed second in the 200 IM in 2:31.63.

For the men, Jon Jarvis won the 100 back in 1:02.46. Brandon VanVleet won the 100 free in 49.51, placed second in the 50 free in 22.58 and third in the 100 fly in 57.859. Chris Borman took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.61 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.98. Ryan Hawke took second in the 200 back in 2:21.13 and the 200 IM in 2:19.78.

The Falcons don't return to action until Jan. 19 when they host Stevens Point at 1 p.m.

Swim Teams Compete at Titan Invitational

Dec. 1, 2001

The Falcon men's and women's swim teams placed third and fourth place respectively at the Titan Invitaitonal held over the weekend at UW-Oshkosh.

In the women's meet Oshkosh finished first with 579points followed by Eau Claire 576, River Falls 382 and Whitewater 314. In the men's meet Eau Claire won with 585followed by Whitewater 543, Oshkosh 472 and River Falls 231.

For the women, Megan Broskoff won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.37 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.43. Amber Wuollet won the 1650 free in 19:29.8 and was fourth in the 200 fly in 2:27.99. Erin Tierney placed third in the 100 fly in 1:05.98 and fifth in the 200 fly in 2:28.4. Deb Schreckenghost placed second in the 200 free in 2:07.82. Abby Olson placed fifth in the 100 back in 1:08.81. Deanna Ek-Pangerl placed fifth in the 100 free in 59..0.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet won the 100 free in 49.04 and placed second in the 200 free in 1:49.97. Chris Borman placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.05.

Saturday the Falcons swim at Luther with action starting at 1 p.m.

Swim Teams Compete at Titan Invitational

The Falcon men's and women's swim teams were in third and fourth place respectively at the Titan Invitaitonal held Friday at UW-Oshkosh.

The women's team had 102 points and the men's squad 78.

For the women, Amber Wuollet finished second in the 500 free in 5:40.53 and Deb Schreckenghost was third in 5:41.49. Megan Broskoff finished fifth in the 200 IM in 2:25.31. Kelly Deters finished fifth in the 50 free in 26.62.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet won the 50 free in 22.46 and Jon Jarvis was fifth in the 200 IM in 2:14.92.

Saturday the Falcons compete in the second day of the Titan Invitational.

Swim Teams Split at Macalester

Nov. 12, 2001

The Falcon men's and women's swim teams split in dual meets at Maclaester College Friday evening in St. Paul, Minn.

The women's team took a 127-92 win, but the men lost, 99-73.

For the women, Megan Broskoff won both the 200 IM in 2:24.32 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.24. Other winners for the Falcons were Amber Wuollet in the 1000 free in 11:46.64, , 400 free in 5:42.22 and the 100 fly in 1:06.9. Deb Schreckenghost won the 200 free in 2:08.2. Chelsea Anderson won the 50 free in 26.3 and the 100 free in 58.17. Kenzie Flanscha won the 100 back in 1:07.27.

For the men, Chad Goetsch placed second in the 1000 free in 11:44.54 and third in the 500 free in 5:35.56. Jon Jarvis won the 200 IM in 2:14.66. Brandon VanVleet won the 100 free in 50.31 and Chris Borman won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.47.

Saturday the Falcons will compete at the WIAC Relays at UW-La Crosse.




Swim Teams Beat Hamline

The Falcon men's and women's swim teams both beat Hamline University Friday night in St. Paul, Minn.

The women won, 144-140 and tthe men won, 99-63.

For the women, Amber Wuollet won the 1,000 free in 11:50.79. Kenzie Flanscha won the 100 back in 1:07.11 and the 200 back in 2:28.61. Megan Broskoff won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.44 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:38.07. The Falcon 200 medley relay team of Flanscha, Broskoff, Kelly Deters and Chelsea Anderson won that event. The 400 free relay team of Deters, Cassie Fisher, Laura Schultz and Anderson won in 3:56.36.

For the men, Brandon VanVleet won the 100 free in 50.28 and the 50 free in 22.48. Ryan Hawke won the 200 free in 2:00.26 and Jon Jarvis won the 100 back in 1:03 and the 200 back in 2:21.06. Chris Borman was a double winner in the 100 breastatroke in 1:11.19 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:44.24. Chad Goetsch won the 500 free in 5:50.49. The Falcons 200 medley relay team of Hawke, Borman, VanVleet and Jarvis took first place.




Swimmers Lose Duals Meets to Oshkosh

The Falcon men's and women's swim teams lost duals meets to UW-Oshkosh Friday night at the Karges Pool.

The men lost, 69-29 and the women lost, 52-43.

For the women, Amber Wuollet won the 1000 free in 11:44.41 and the 500 free in 5:43.2. Chelsea Anderson won the 50 free in 26.83 and the 100 free in 58.42. Megan Broskoff won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.98. The Falcon 200 medley relay team of Kenzie Flanscha, Broskoff, Kelly Deters and Laura Schultz won in 1:59.25.

Brandon VanVellet led the men with a first place finish in the 200 free in 1:53.59 and in the 500 free in 5:31.44.

Saturday the Falcons will swim at the Midwest Co-Ed Relays at UW-Eau Claire.






Swimmers Compete at Mankato Pentathlon

Oct. 12, 2001

The UW-River Falls women's swim team finished second in the Maverick Pentathlon held Friday night at Mankato, Minn.

Sophomore Megan Broskoff led the women's team, placing sixth overall with a time of 3:10.75. Freshman Deanna Ek-Pangerl finished 13th overall in 3:16.37.

The men's team was paced by sophomore Brandon VanVleet who placed fifth in a time of 2:50.06.

The five events in the swimming pentathlon are the 100-meter freestyle, breaststroke, individual medley, backstroke, and butterfly.

 

Swimmers Open Season at Mankato Pentathlon

Oct. 8, 2001

The Falcon women's and men's swim teams open their 2001-2002 season on Friday when they compete at the Mankato Pentathlon. Action starts at 4 p.m.

The Falcons, under coach Doug Naylor who starts his 11th year, have a nine-person men's roster and a 24-person women's roster.

The Falcons open their home season on Oct. 19 when they host UW-Oshkosh at the Karges Pool with action starting at 6 p.m.
