playoff finals game played at Willett Arena in Stevens Point on Sunday
afternoon. The Falcons answered back to tie the game in the second with a goal from Jenny Conzemius with an assist to Beth Betker at 14:54. Kim Chenery from Stevens Point scored the game winning goal with assists
from Becky Humphreys and Jenn Dorff with just 12 seconds to play. Falcon goalie Marlene Yaeger made 29 saves. Stevens Point goalie Diane Sawyer stopped 19 shots. Falcons Beat UW-Superior, 2-0 Feb. 17, 2002 Behind goals by Jenny Conzemius and Beth Betker, and 25 saves by goalie Marlene Yaeger, the Falcon women's hockey team beat UW-Superior, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Hunt Arena. The first two periods were scoreless. Conzemius scored at 13:58 of the third period with assists to Jodi Hensch and Keri Deschene. Betker got the insurance goal at 16:45 with an assist to Megan Wahlstrom-Ramler. Yaeger made 11 saves in the first period, nine in the second and five in the third to get her third shutout of the season. UWS goalie Kelly Timm stopped 17 shots. The Falcons, now 12-10-3 overall and 8-6-2 in the NCHA, finished third in the final NCHA standings. UWRF will play UWS on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the NCHA semifinals in the NCHA playoff championship tourney. The tourney wil be at UW-Stevens Point. UWSP plays UW-Eau Claire at 5 p.m. in the other semifinal. A third place game will be played at noon on Sunday followed by the championship game at 2:30 p.m. All games will be played at the Willett Arena in Stevens Point. Falcons Top UWS, 3-2 Feb. 16, 2002 The Falcons picked up a 3-2 NCHA win over UW-Superior Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena. The Falcons grabbed a 2-0 lead after one period. Jenny Conzemius scored at 15:54 and Beth Betker scored at 19:25. UWS made it a 2-1 game at 2:25 of the second period when Mandy Brooks scored. UWRF got back a 3-1 lead at 6:33 when Lisa McGuire scored a power-play goal. UWS got back to within 3-2 at 18:19 of the second when Brooks scored a power-play goal. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 22 saves and UWS's Heather Ash stopped 28 shots. The Falcons, now 11-10-3 overall and 7-6-2 in the NCHA, will host UW-Superior on Sunday at the Hunt Arena. Action starts at 2:05 p.m. Falcons Win at Lake Forest, 2-1 Feb. 9, 2002 The Falcons got goals from Heather Egeness and Lisa McGuire to take a 2-1 win at Lake Forest Saturday afternoon. UWRF scored at 8:51 when Egeness scored wtih an assist to Megan Schulzetenberg. LFC tied the game at 10:36 of the first period when Robyn Shae scored. After a scoreless second period, McGuire scored at 13:28 of the third to give UWRF a 2-1 lead. Megan Wahlstrom-Ramler and Egeness got the assists. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 31 saves and LFC's Theresa Taylor stopped 13 shots. The Falcons, now 10-10-3 overall and 6-6-2 in the NCHA, will host UW-Superior on Saturday at the Hunt Arena. Action starts at 2:05 p.m. Falcons Shut Out Lake Forest, 4-0 Feb. 8, 2002 Marlene Yaeger and the Falcon women shut down the Foresters to take a 4-0 win at Lake Forest Friday night. Karyl Hylle opened up the Falcon scoring column with an even goal at 14:14 of the first period, with assists from Keri Deschene and Mandy Stokes. Jodi Hensch added the second goal at 14:13 in the second period unassisted on power play. Early in the third, at 2:46, Jenny Conzemius made it a 3-0 Falcon lead by scoring from Megan Schulzetenberg and Meghan Wahlstrom-Ramler. Wahlstrom-Ramler also finished the Foresters off at 17:51 with the Falcons' fourth goal of the night with assists from Rachel Goodwin and Annie Shanahan. Yaeger saved 14 shots while the Falcon offense manufactured 32 shots on goal. The Falcons served six penalties and the Foresters served eight. The Falcons, now 9-10-3 overall and 5-6-2 in the NCHA, will play at Lake Forest on on Saturday with the puck dropping at 2:05 p.m.
Falcons Lose at UWSP, 2-1 Feb. 2, 2002 The Falcon women's hockey team lost another tight game, 2-1, at UW-Stevens Point Saturday night. UWSP took a 1-0 lead at 17:56 of the first period when Emily Teachout scored. UWSP went ahead 2-0 at 2:26 of the second period when Jackie Schmitt scored. UWRF got back in the game at 11:35 of the third period when Beth Betker scored with an assist to Mandy Stokes. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 28 saves and UWSP's Shannon Kasparek stopped 18 shots. The Falcons, now 8-10-3 and 4-6-2 in the NCHA, will play at Lake Forest on Friday with the puck dropping at 7:05 p.m. Falcons Lose at UWSP, 2-0 Feb. 2, 2002 The Falcon women's hockey team lost a 2-0 decision at UW-Stevens Point Friday night. The Falcons, now 8-9-3 and 4-5-2 in the NCHA, will play at UW-Stevens Point again on Saturday with the puck dropping at 7:35 p.m. Falcons Lose 6-1 Decision to Gustavus Adolphus Jan. 30, 2002 The Falcon women's hockey team lost a 6-1 decision to Gustavus Adolphus Wednesday night at Hunt Arena. GAC, now 13-2-1 overall, led 2-0 after the first period off goals by Anna Stenstrom at 5:29 and Nicole Grimond at 10:03. GAC led 3-0 after two off a goal by Bobee Jo Lang at 17:44. UWRF made it a 3-1 game in the third period when Heather Egeness scored at 6:23. But GAC scored threee goals, by Layra Stypulkowski, Sarah Moe and Katie Deschneau, in the final half of the period. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 23 saves and GAC's Anne Kautzer stopped 32 shots. The Falcons, now 8-8-3 and 4-4-2 in the NCHA, will play a pair of NCHA games at UW-Stevens Point this weekend. Action starts at 7:35 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Falcons Beat UWEC, 7-2 Jan. 26, 2002 Annie Shanahan, Karyl Hylle and Keri Deschene each scored two goals to help lead the Falcon women's hockey team to a 7-2 win over UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena. UWRF led 2-0 after the first period and 3-2 after two. Jenny Conzemius scored at 4:12 and Deschene at 5:37 to give the Falcons a 2-0 first period lead. UWEC tied the game in the second period with goals at 5:18 and 6:27. Hylle scored at 12:21 to make it a 3-2 game after two. UWRF scored four unanswered goals in the third. Shanahan scored at 3:58 and 5:03. Hylle got her second at 16:16 and Deschene got her second at 18:52. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 22 saves to get the win. UWEC goalies Tara Berliute (23) and Rachel Rundquist (1) combined fop 24 saves. The Falcons, now 8-7-3 and 4-4-2 in the NCHA, will host Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday in a non-conference game at Hunt Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
Jan. 25, 2002 The Falcon women's hockey team scored one goal in the first period and added two more in the second, and goalie Marlene Yaeger made 13 saves to record her first career shutout, in a 3-0 win over UW-Eau Claire Friday night at Hunt Arena. Meghan Wahlstrom-Ramler scored at 6:08 of the first period to give the Falcons the lead for good. Laura Berg scored her first collegiate goal at 16:24 of the second period to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Jenny Conzemius scored at 19:59 of the second period to make it a 3-0 game. Yaeger made six saves in the first, three in the second and four in the third. The Falcons had 30 shots on goal. The Falcons, now 7-7-3 and 3-4-2 in the NCHA, will host UW-Eau Claire again on Saturday with the puck dropping at 2:05 p.m. Falcons Get 2-1 Win Over St. Thomas Jan. 23, 2002 The Falcons got goals from Lisa McGuire and Jenny Conzemius to get a 2-1 win over St. Thomas Wednesday night at Hunt Arena. Falcon goalie Marlene Yaeger made 32 saves to help the Falcons to the win. Yaeger stopped seven shots in the first period, eight in the second and 17 in the third. There was no scoring in the first or second periods. McGuire scored at 13:53 of the third period to give UWRF the lead. Conzemius scored an empty-net goal at 19:30 of the period to make it a 2-0 game. UST's Tiffany Petermeir scored with :15 to play to make it a one-goal final. UST goalie Danielle Mikolai stopped 23 shots. The Falcons, now 6-7-3 and 2-4-2 in the NCHA, will host UW-Eau Claire this weekend in a pair of NCHA games at Hunt Arena. Friday's game starts at 7:05 p.m. Saturday's contest starts at 2:05 p.m. Falcons Lose Second to Pointers, 1-0 Jan. 12, 2002 The Falcons kept UW-Stevens Point scoreless through two and a half periods, but the Pointers' lone goal in the third lifted them to a physically hard-fought 1-0 win at Hunt Arena Saturday afternoon. UW-SP's Emily Teachout skated right to left across the face of Falcon goaltender Marlene Yaeger and lifted a shot from the left side to beat the Falcons at 10:05 into the third period. The Falcons fought for a scoring opportunity and had a few, but Pointer goalie Diane Sawyer was stolid. With 1:25 yet to go, Yaeger stepped out of action to give the Falcons a woman advantage. Yaeger finished with a 32-save effort. The Falcons put 20 shots on goal. The Falcons, now 5-7-3 and 2-4-2 in the NCHA, will take next weekend off and return to the ice for a mid-week contest with St. Thomas on Jan. 23 in Hunt Arena at 7:05 p.m.
Falcons Fall in Overtime, 3-2 Jan. 11, 2002 The Falcon women's hockey team came back from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime, but the Pointers took the game with 35 seconds left to win 3-2 Friday night at Hunt Arena. The Pointers had their 2-0 lead by midway through the second period after taking the first on a rebound at 19:45 of the first and the second at 10:53 of the second period. Late in the second, though, the Falcons responded and Jodi Hensch skated down the ice, fired a shot from behind the circles, and put the Falcons on the scoreboard, unassisted. Then, at 12:39 of the third period, with pressure to tie mounting, Hensch came through again on a similar hard shot that blew by Pointer goalie Shannon Kasparek. Lisa McGuire assisted on the goal. The Falcons kept the Pointers scoreless for the remainder of regulation and sent the contest to overtime. The Pointers dominated overtime by keeping the puck in their offensive zone. And at 4:25, a shot from behind the blue line bounced off Marlene Yaeger's save to just out of her reach. Pointer Ann Ninnemann, rushing for the puck, found a way to hammer it past Yaeger and end the game. Yaeger stopped 24 shots on the night; her teammates shot 24 on goal. The Falcons were 1-for-6 on the power play while the Pointers went 0-for-4 with the extra player. Saturday the two teams play the second game in the series with the puck dropping at 2:05 p.m. at Hunt Arena.
Falcons Top St. Mary's, 3-1 Jan. 8, 2002 The Falcon women came out with a 3-0 lead through two periods and held on to defeat St. Mary's, 3-1, on the road Tuesday night. Marlene Yaeger stalled a tough Cardinal offense for nearly two and a half periods, and it was enough for the Falcon skaters to gain the edge they needed. After nearly a completely scoreless first period, senior Mandy Stokes led the squad with the opening goal at 19:36, unassisted. Then after another silent half period, the Falcons struck again at the hand of Annie Shanahan, assisted by Beth Betker, at 13:04 in the second period. Jenny Conzemius then reinforced her lead in team points and goals with a score at 19:12 of the second period, with help from Katie Hiscock. It wasn't until 9:18 of the third period that the Cardinals beat Yaeger on an unassisted Mo Hayes goal. Yaeger stopped 33 shots on goal Tuesday evening as her teammates compiled 23 shots on the Cardinal goal. The game was lightly peppered with penalties the Cardinals with four for eight minutes and the Falcons with three for six minutes. The Falcons improve to 5-5-3 on the season and knock St. Mary's down to 6-4-1. This weekend the Falcons host a two-game conference series with UW-Stevens Point in Hunt Arena. Game times are 7:05 p.m. Friday and 2:05 p.m. Saturday. The Pointers are battling for the conference title with UW-Superior.
Women's Hockey Team Loses in Overtime, 4-3 Dec. 29, 2001 The UW-River Falls women's hockey team lost to the second-ranked team in the nation, Bowdoin College, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena. UWRF jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one period. Elisha Best scored with assists to Jenny Conzemius and Katie Hiscock at 10:58. BC tied the game with the only goal of the second period. Jen Pelkey scored at 15:18. BC took a 2-1 lead at 8:52 of the third period when Sadie Wieschhoff scored. UWRF then took a 3-2 lead. Annie Shanahan scored an unassisted goal at 11:00 and Conzemius scored at 14:04 with an assist to Beth Betker. But at 15:37 Pelkey scored her second of the game, unassisted, to tie the game at 3-3. In the OT, Ba Lanoue scored the game-winner at the 3-minute mark. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 28 saves and the Falcons had 28 shots on goal. The Falcons, now 4-5-2 overall, play again on Jan. 8 at St. Mary's. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Women's Skaters Tie UW-Eau Claire Again Dec. 15, 2001 The UW-River Falls women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 overtime tie, the second tie at UW-Eau Claire in as many days. The two teams tied 2-2 in overtime on Friday night. UWEC took a 1-0 lead at 15:25 of the first period when Lindsay Siesennop scored. UWRF tied the game at 19:05 of the period when Lisa McGuire scored a short-handed, unassisted goal. Neither team scored after that. UWRF had 12 shots on goal the rest of the game while UWEC had 25. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 32 saves and UWEC's goalie Tara Berlute stopped 16 shots. The Falcons, now 4-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the NCHA, next hosts Bowdon College on Dec. 29 at Hunt Arena. The puck drops at 2:05 p.m. Women's Skaters Tie UW-Eau Claire Dec. 14, 2001 The UW-River Falls women's hockey team tied UW-Eau Claire, 2-2, in a WNCHA contest Friday night in Eau Claire. The Falcons (4-4-2, 2-2-1 in the WNCHA) tied the game at 2-2 with 9:55 elapsed in the second period when Heather Eggeness scored with an assist from Jenny Conzemius. The tally would be the last of the game as both goaltenders had perfect third periods and overtimes. Falcon goalie Marlene Yaeger stopped 26 shots, seven in the third period and overtime, while her counterpart Tara Berlute made 24 saves, nine in the final stanza and extra period. The Blugolds (4-6-1, 0-4-1) took the lead earlier in the second period. Christa Hubert scored with 7:43 elapsed to give the Blugolds a 2-1 lead. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie. Falcon Lisa McGuire gave River Falls the lead at 4:15, but the Blugolds answered with a goal at 11:00 by Jen Mead. The two teams will hook up again tomorrow in Eau Claire. Superior Sweeps Falcons, 6-2 Dec. 8, 2001 The Falcons took an early 2-1 lead, but the Yellowjackets were too much to handle as they scored four goals in the second period to sweep the weekend series Saturday, 6-2, in Superior. At 13:47 in the first period, Jenny Conzemius put the Falcons on the scoreboard with an unassisted power play goal to tie the game, 1-1. Then at 6:16 in the second period, Karyl Hylle scored the Falcons' second goal from a Beth Betker assist. Seconds later, though, at 6:26 and after the Falcons went one woman short, the Yellowjackets started a spree of scoring: four goals in just over six minutes of play. Another Superior goal in the third period topped the game off at six. The Falcons' Marlene Yaeger tended the contest, saving 25 shots on goal; the Falcons shot 29 at 'Jacket goalie Kelly Timm. The Yellowjackets were excellent on the power play, scoring on four of their five opportunities. The Falcons made good on one of seven chances. The Falcons drop to 4-4-1 (2-2-0 in the NCHA) with the loss; the Yellowjackets are now 10-1-0 (6-0-0). Next weekend the Falcons will face-off against the Blugolds at Eau Claire Friday at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
Falcons Lose 2-1 Decision at UW-Superior Dec. 7, 2001 Jenny Conzemius scored a short-handed goal but it wasn't enough as the Falcons lost a 2-1 decision at UW-Superior Friday aftternoon. After a scoreless first period UWS took a 1-0 lead after two when Jody Faye scored at 11:44 of the second period. UWS went ahead at 17:56 of the final period when Jordan Sharpe scored what proved to be the game-winner. Conzemius finally got the Falcons on the board with just six seconds to play when she scored short-handed. Elisa Best picked up the assist. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 48 saves while UWS's Kelly Timm stopped 21 shots. The Falcons, now 4-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the NCHA, finish the series at UWS on Saturday with the puck dropping at 2:05 p.m. Conzemius, Egeness Score Twice to Lead Falcons Dec. 1, 2001 Jenny Conzemius and Hether Egeness each scored twice to lead the Falcons to a 10-2 win over Lake Forest Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena. The Falcons led 3-0 after the first period on goals by Elisa Best, Beth Betker and Conzemius. UWRF led 5-1 after two. Annie Shanahan and Meghan Wahlstrom-Ramler got the Falcon goals. In the third the Falcons got five goals - from Karyl Hylle, two from Egeness, one from Conzemius and one from Katie Hiscock. Best's goal came with the Falcons skating short-handed and Egeness's first goal came on the power-play. Falcon goalie Marlene Yaeger made 14 saves and the Falcons had 35 shots on goal. The Falcons, now 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the NCHA, play at UW-Superior on Friday with action starting at 2 p.m. Best, Egeness Lead Falcons Over Lake Forest Nov. 30, 2001 Elisha Best and Heather Egeness each scored twice to help lead the Falcons over Lake Forest, 5-3, Friday night at Hunt Arena. The game was tied 1-1 after one and 2-2 after two. Egeness scored a power-play goal at 19:24 of the first period and LFC scored to tie the game just seven seconds later. In the second LFC took a 2-1 lead before Mandy Stokes scored a power-play goal at 15:43 to make it a 2-2 game after two. The Falcons broke the game open in the third. Best scored a four-on-four goal at 2:16, but less than a minute later LFC scored a four-on-four goal of its own to tie the game for a third time. But Best got the game-winner at 16:44 and Egeness added an insurance goal at 18:15. Falcon goalie Marlene Yaeger made eight saves to get the win. The Falcons had 45 shots on goal. Saturday the Falcons host Lake Forest in the second game of the series. Action starts at 2:05 p.m. at Hunt Arena. Best Scores Twice to Lead Falcons over St. Kate's Nov. 20, 2001 Elisha Best scored two goals to help lead the Falcons to a 5-1 win over St. Catherine Tuesday night at the Hunt Arena. SC scored at 10:08 of the first period to take the lead. But Keri Deschene scored at 14:17 to tie the game. The Falcons took a 3-1 lead after two. Best scored both goals, at :31 and 4:16. The Falcons added two goals in the third. Jenny Conzemius, who also had an assist on Best's second goal, scored a power-play goal at 5:59 and Ashley Burrows scored with just 25 seconds to play. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 20 saves to get the win. The Falcons
had 29 shots on goal.
Falcons Tie at Gustavus Adolphus, 2-2 Nov. 8, 2001 The Falcons played to a 2-2 overtime tie at Gustavus Adolphus College on Thursday night in St. Peter, Minn. After a scoreless first period the Falcons took a 1-0 lead at 4:43 of the second period when Katie Hiscock scored with assists to Jodi Hensch and Lisa McGuire. GAC tied the game at 6:02 of the period when Sarah Moe scored a short-handed goal. GAC took a 2-1 lead at 15:25 of the third period when Moe scored again, this time with her team on the power-play. But the Falcons tied the game with 2:27 to play when Meghan Wahlstrom-Ramler scored with assists to Beth Betker and McGuire. Both teams had two shots on goal in the overtime period. UWRF goalie Marlene Yaeger made 40 saves, including 18 in the second period. The Falcons had 16 shots on goal. Saturday the Falcons have their home opener at 2:05 p.m. when they host

Katie Jacques scored a short-handed goal at 7:13, Jenai Estrada scored at 10:26, Christine Kleven at 12:02 and Jacques again at 13:32. UWRF goalie Jill Janikowski made 16 saves while the Falcons had 32 shots on goal. The Falcons had six penalties for 12 minutes and C-M had seven for 14.
