Falcon Men's Hockey Player of the Week

Feb. 17, 2003

Forward Josh Schlipp (So., Chisago Lakes, Minn.) helped the Falcons to two wins in the first round of the NCHA playoffs held last weekend at Hunt Arena. The Falcons beat St. Scholastica, 3-0 and 14-2 to advance to the semifinals. In Friday’s win he scored the team’s second goal. In Saturday’s win he scored four goals and had one assist. He scored one power-play goal and one short-handed goal.

 

 

 

 

Feb. 2, 2003

Forward Matt Elsen (Jr., Richfield, Minn.) played a key role in the Falcons 11-2 win over St. Scholastica on Saturday at Hunt Arena. He scored the hat trick and had one assist in the win. He scored the game-winning goal and one score came with UWRF on the power play.

 

 

 

Jan. 27, 2003

Forward Tony Sikich (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) helped the Falcons to two wins last weekend over UW-Stevens Point, 3-2 in overtime, and 9-3 over UW-Eau Claire. In Saturday’s win, he led the Falcons with two goals.

 

 

Jan. 21, 2003

Forward Matt Elsen (Jr., Richfield, Minn.) helped the Falcons to a 4-2 win at Gustavus Adolphus. After GAC took a 2-0 lead in the first period, the Falcons responded with four straight goals. Elsen got an assist on the first Falcon goal, scored the third goal, which proved to be the game-winner, and assisted on the fourth goal.

 

 

 

Jan. 13, 2003

Forward Evan Stensrud (Sr Minnetonka, Minn. ) played two strong games in helping the Falcons beat UW-Stout, 8-0 and 6-2 last week. The wins improved UWRF's record to 15-2-1 overall. UWRF is 4-0-1 in the WIAC and 7-0-1 in the NCHA. In Friday's win, he scored the team's fourth goal and had assists on each of the team's final four goals giving him five points in the game. In Saturday's win, he scored two goals, including the game-winner and had two assists. He finished the week with three goals and six assists.

 

 

 

Jan. 6, 2003

Forward Josh Schlipp (So., Chisago Lakes, Minn.) helped the Falcons to a 3-1 win over St. Olaf on Saturday night at Hunt Arena. Schlipp scored two of the team's three second period goals. He opened the scoring with a goal at 2:40. After the Falcons went ahead 2-0, he scored a power-play goal at 15:06.

 

 

 

Dec. 16, 2002

Forward Jim Murphy (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) helped the Falcons to a split in two games last weekend. In the team's 8-1 win over Augsburg College on Friday, he scored two goals. He scored the team's second and fourth goals and got the game-winner. On Saturday, he scored the team's only goal in a 2-1 loss to St. John's. He scored with just 1:01 to play in the game to tie the score at the time, 1-1.

 

 

 

Nov. 25, 2002

Forward Nate Kotewa (Sr., Fairmont, Minn.) helped the Falcons to two wins last weekend, including a 5-2 win over St. Norbert, ranked No. 1 in the USCHO poll. He scored two goals against St. Norbert, the last an empty net short-handed effort. He also scored the team's second goal against Lake Forest in a 3-2 win. "What a blood and guts guy, killing penalties and hitting and taking hits. He's doing it all for us this year," Falcon Coach Steve Freeman said.

 

 

 

Nov. 18, 2002

Forward Matt Elsen (Jr., Richfield, Minn.) helped the Falcons to two wins last week. The Falcons topped Hamline, 5-0 and Bethel, 6-0 to improve to 7-0-1 on the year. Elsen picked up one goal in Saturday's win and an assist in Friday's win.

 

 

 

 

Nov. 11, 2002

Defenseman Mike Salmela (So., Duluth, Minn.) helped the Falcons to win three of four points in NCHA play last weekend. The Falcons took a 7-1 at St. Scholastica on Friday and Salmela had three assists in the contest. Saturday the Falcons finished in a 0-0 tie in overtime at UW-Superior.

 

 

 

Nov. 4, 2002

Forward Evan Stensrud (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.) helped the Falcons to two WIAC wins last weekend. UWRF beat UW-Eau Claire, 10-1 on Friday, and UW-Stevens Point 7-2 on Saturday. Stensrud, a 6-1, 180 pounder, had one goal and one assist at Eau Claire, and had two assists, including an assist on the game-winning goal, at Stevens Point. "Evan played very well in both games," Falcon Coach Steve Freeman said. "He ran our power play and was good with the puck all weekend."

 

 

Oct. 28, 2002

Forward Jamie Steinert (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn. Osseo HS) helped the Falcons to two wins last weekend over the Milwaukee School of Engineering. In Friday’s 11-2 win he scored one goal and came back in Saturday’s 7-1 win with two goals.
