Eight Falcons Named to All-WIAC Hockey Team

Eight members of the Falcon men's hockey team have been named to the 2002 All-WIAC team announced Feb. 21.

Goalie Jacque Vezina (Jr., Hudson, Wis.), defenseman Adam Kragthorpe (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) and forwards Jess Johnson (So., Bloomington, Minn.) and Josh Schlipp (Fr., Chisago Lakes, Minn.) were all named to the first team. Forwards Jim Murphy (So., St. Paul, Minn.), Rob Novak (So., Hayward, Wis.) and Jamie Steinert (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) and defenseman John Conboy (So., Silver Bay, Minn.) all received honorable mention.

Vezina, who received honorable mention to the 2000 team and was named to the first team in 2001, was the team's top goalie. He has a 16-7-2 record with a 2.06 goals against average and a .918 saves percentage. He has set a school record with five shutouts this year. Kragthorpe, who was named to the first team in 2001 and received honorable mention in 2000, gives the Falcons additional scoring talents from the blue line. He has three goals and 10 assists for 14 points. He has two power-play goals. Johnson, who received honorable mention to the team in 2001, has had a second great year for the Falcons up front. He is currently fourth on the team with 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points. He has three power-play goals and leads the team with four game-winners. Schlipp broke into the Falcon lineup and had a great rookie season. He leads the team in scoring with a team-high 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points. He has scored three power-play goals and one game-winner.

Conboy is the team's top scoring defenseman. He has two goals and 13 assists for 15 points. Murphy is also in his first year with the team. He is second on the team in points with seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points. He leads the team with 18 assists. He has one power-play goal, a short-handed goal and two game-winners. Novak had another solid year for the Falcons. He is sixth on the team in points with 10 goals, seven assists for 17 points. He has one power-play goal. Steinert is in his second year with the team and is fifth on the team in scoring. He has scored 10 goals and has eight assists for 18 points. He has scored two game-winning goals.

The Falcons are currently 18-7-2 overall.
