Eight Falcons Named to All-WIAC Hockey Team

Eight members of the Falcon men's hockey team have been named to the 2001 All-WIAC team announced Feb. 21.

Goalie Jacque Vezina (So., Hudson, Wis.), defensemen Eliot Komar (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) and Adam Kragthorpe (So., Plymouth, Minn.) and forwards Jared Anderson (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.) and Jeff Bernard (Sr., Enfield, Conn.) were all named to the first team. Forwards Carl Boben (Jr., Hibbing, Minn.), Jess Johnson (Fr., Bloomington, Minn.) and Evan Stensrud (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) all received honorable mention.

Vezina, who received honorable mention to the 2000 team, was the team's top goalie. He has a 16-6-1 record with a 2.36 goals against average and a .906 saves percentage. This is the third year that Komar has been named to the first team and he received honorable mention as a freshman. He is a solid defensive defenseman who has nine assists. Kragthorpe, who received honorable mention last year, gives the Falcons some additional scoring talents from the blue line. He leads all Falcon defensemen with nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points. He has three power-play goals and one game-winner. Anderson received honorable mention in 1999 and 2000. This year he is third on the team in goals with 11 and has six assists for 17 points. He is tied for the team lead with seven power-play goals and he has two game-winners. Bernard was named to the first All-WIAC team in 2000. This year he leads the team in goals with 19 and with his 21 assists, leads the team with 40 points. He is tied for the team lead with seven power-play goals and he has two game-winners.

Boben has nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points. Johnson, who is second on the team in scoring has 12-23-35 including five power-play goals and two game-winners. His 23 assists leads the team. Stensrud, who is third on the team in scoring, has nine goals and 20 assists for 29 points. He has four power-play goals and two game-winners.

The Falcons won the 2001 WIAC championship finishing with a 7-1-0 record.
