Player of the Week
Nov. 15, 1999

Offense:

Quarterback Cory Mueller (Sr., Lannon, Wis., Lomira HS) led the Falcons in rushing with 122 yards and he scored twice on runs of two and 67-yards. He completed 1-3 passes for 18 yards and that completion was good for a TD.

Defense:

Linebacker Broc Threinen (Sr., Kasson, Minn., Kasson-Mantorville HS) had seven solo and one assisted tackle. He tackled the WSU quarterback in the end zone and earned the Falcons a two-point safety. He also forced one fumble.

Special Teams:

Kicker Dan Toninato (So., Green Bay, Wis., Ashwaubenon HS) was good on both field goal attempts against WSU. He kicked a 23 yarder in the second period and booted a 27-yarder in the fourth quarter that gave the Falcons a nine-point lead with just 22 seconds to play. He also was good on all three extra point attempts.

Nov. 8, 1999

Offense:

Quarterback Cory Mueller (Sr., Lannon, Wis., Lorima HS) rushed 17 times and gained 100 yards and scored on a 5-yard run. He completed 2-6 passes for 20 yards including a 10-yard scoring play.

Defense:

Free safety Brian Katlack (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn., Park Center HS) played another strong game for the Falcons. He had three solo and two assisted tackles. He intercepted one pass at the Falcon 14 yard line, broke up four passes and forced a fumble.

Special Teams:

Return man Ben Kolstad (Sr., Green Bay, Wis., East HS) returned three kickoffs 60 yards with a long of 32. He also returned one punt 18 yards. On a UWRF kickoff, he recovered a fumble and returned it 23 yards to set up the Falcons third touchdown that gave them a 24-7 lead.

Nov. 1, 1999

Offense:

Guard Carmen Pata (Sr., Oshkosh, Wis., Lourdes HS) played one of his best games in helping the Falcons top Whitewater. His blocking helped the Falcons rush for 354 yards.

Defense:

Cornerback Tim Sukalski (Sr., Blue Earth, Minn.) led the Falcons with 12 tackles, five were solo stops. He also broke up two passes.

Special Teams:

Returner Scott Kusilek (Fr., River Falls, Wis.) stepped into the position for the first time in his career. He returned three kickoffs for 55 yards and had a long of 30 yards.

Oct. 25, 1999

Offense:

Guard John Biezuns (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) had, "a great day blocking," coach John O'Grady said. He helped lead the Falcons to 391 total yards including 382 rushing yards.

Defense:

Tackle Jeremy Larson (So., Ashland, Wis.) made four solo, three assisted tackles and a pass hurry at Oshkosh. He had 1.5 sacks for 14 yards and two total tackles for a loss.

Special Teams:

Kicker Dan Toninato (So., Green Bay, Wis., Ashwaubenon HS) had another good day kicking for the Falcons. He made both field goals he attempted covering 30 and 25 yards. He was also good on the one extra point kick attempted.

Oct. 18, 1999

Offense:

Halfback Mark Shepherdson (Jr., Burlington, Wis.) saved his best for the end of the game scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns Saturday against Eau Claire. He scored on a six-yard run with 4:23 to play That cut UWEC's lead to 34-31.He scored on a 25-yard run with 1:12 to go to help lift the Falcons to the lead and the win. He finished with seven carries for 92 yards and he caught one pass for 24 yards.

Defense:

End Ryan LaGrander (Fr., Stanley, Wis., Stanley-Boyd HS) stepped into a defensive end position for an injured player and led the Falcons in tackles against Eau Claire. He finished with six solo and four assisted stops. He had one sack for three yards and three tackles for a loss of 11 yards.

Special Teams:

Kicker Dan Toninato (Green Bay, Wis., Ashwaubenon HS) was perfect on five extra points and added a 26-yard field goal Saturday against Eau Claire. The field goal came late in the first half and made a big difference in the four-point Falcon win.

Oct. 11, 1999

Offense:

Wide receiver Scott Kusilek (Fr., River Falls, Wis.) caught three touchdown passes Saturday against Stevens Point. They covered 43, 15 and 27 yards. The last two came in the four quarter. He finished with four catches for 96 yards.

Defense:

Outside linebacker Ben Gray (So., Fond du Lac, Wis., St. Mary's Springs HS) had a great day for the Falcon defense. He led the Falcons with 12 total tackles, including seven solos. He had 1.5 sacks for 17 yards.

Special Teams:

Linebacker Broc Threinen (Sr., Kasson, Minn., Kasson-Mantorville HS) had three tackles on special teams for the Falcons against Stevens Point.

Oct. 4, 1999

Offense:

Quarterback Cory Mueller (Sr., Lannon, Wis. Lomira H.S.) rushed nine times for 37 yards and scored on a one-yard run. He also completed 1-2 passes for 20 yards. had 2 attempts, 1 completion for 20 yards against UW-Stout. "Cory brought the offense out of its doldrums. He played a great game," Coach John O'Grady said.

Defense:

Free Safety Brian Katlack (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. Park Center H.S.) played a solid game against UW-Stout. He had seven tackles and two of them were solo stops.

Special Teams:

End Nick Basham (So., Osceola, Wis.) blocked a UW-Stout punt. He recovered it and took it back 10 yards for a touchdown.

Sept. 27, 1999

Offense:

Halfback Michael Grant (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn., De La Salle HS) carried the ball just three times but gained 66 yards and scored on a 45-yard run.

Defense:

End Nick Basham (So., Osceola, Wis.) had one of his best games ever against La Crosse. He had three solo and five assisted tackles. He was involved in three sacks that resulted in 15 lost yards, two other quarterback hurries and one pass broken up. He blocked a punt that was recovered and returned for a Falcon touchdown.

Special Teams:

Punter Richard Timm (So., Amery, Wis.) kicked seven times and averaged 30.3 yards a punt. "Richard did a superb job," coach John O'Grady said. "With Jared Arn returning punts, we wanted to kick away from him and out of bounds. Richard was able to do that." Arn returned just one punt for four yards.

Sept. 13, 1999

Offense:

Halfback Nick Scribner (Jr., Prairie Farm, Wis.) had a good day running the ball for the Falcons. He carried the ball just five times, but gained 42 yards.

Defense:

Tackle Matt Roerig (Jr., Wausau, Wis. - West High School) played a solid game in the Falcons front line. He finished with eight solo and three assisted tackles. He had one tackle for a four-yard loss.

Special Teams:

Return man Ben Kolstad (Sr., Green Bay, - Wis. East H.S.) returned two punts for 11 yards and two kick offs for 53 yards. He returned one kick off 32 yards. "Ben did a good job of catching every ball kicked his way with a very strong wind blowing," John O'Grady said.

Sept. 6, 1999

Offense:

Halfback Taylor Hall (Jr., Shell Lake, Wis.) had a solid day running the ball for the Falcons. He carried the ball nine times and gained 81 yards.

Defense:

End Joe Green (Sr., Somerset, Wis.) had a great first game for the Falcons. He had three solo and one assisted tackle. He had one tackle for loss, one pass hurry that led to an intereption and a forced fumble. He also blocked a Huskie punt that led to a Falcon touchdown.

Special Teams:

Kicker Tim Mauseth (Fr., Kenyon, Minn., Kenyon-Wanamingo H.S.) was 2-2 on extra points and kicked a 30-yard field goal. He had three kick offs that went through the end zone. "Tim was perfect in extra points and made his first collegiate field goal try," coach John O'Grady said.
