Fastpitch Team Loses to UWS; Eliminated From WIAC Tourney May 3, 2003 The Falcons lost a 3-0 decision to UW-Superior Saturday morning and were eliminated from the double elimination WIAC Tourney being played at UW-Platteville. UWRF was held scoreless and had five hits and one error. UWS scored three runs on five hits and made no errors. UWS scored one run in the first and two in the fifth. Sarah Tarasewicz knocked in all three runs for the Jackets with a solo homer in the first and a two-run homer in the fifth. Abby Keene finished 2-3 at the plate. Melissa Turbak was 1-2 while Amy Brooke and Tiff Blumer were both 1-3. Brooke went the distance on the mound and took the loss. She walked one and struck out three. Her record dropped to 9-10. UWS's Abby Glawe got the pitching win to raise her record to 11-12. She didn't walk a batter and struck out seven. The Falcons end their season with a 20-17 overall record. Fastpitch Team Splits at WIAC Tourney May 2, 2003 The Falcons split in two games in the first day at the WIAC Tournament being played at UW-Platteville. The Falcons topped UW-Stevens Point, 2-1, in their first game, but lost
a 7-6 decision, in nine innings, to UW-Whitewater in the second game. UWRF scored two runs on four hits and made two errors. UWSP scored one run on only two hits and made no errors. Devanie Bigalk got the pitching win allowing just the two hits and one earned run. She didn't walk a batter and struck out three. She held UWSP's Jill Van Wychen hitless, snapping Van Wychen's NCAA Div. III record 36-game hitting streak. Bigalk has a 10-4 record. Evans was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Poulter and Moxon were both 2-5 with a run scored and one RBI. Against UWW, the Falcons scored six runs on 11 hits and they made two errors. UWRF scored two runs in the first and second innings and single runs in the eighth and ninth. UWW scored seven runs on 11 hits and they made five errors. The Warhawks scored twice in the second and ninth innings and single runs in the third, seventh and eighth. UWW got the winning runs in the bottom of the ninth when Erin Bravo hit a two-run homer. Evans was 2-3 with a run scored and one RBI. Poulter and Moxon were both 2-5 with a run scored and one RBI. One of Moxon's its was a triple. Emily Stahl was 2-5 with a run scored. Meghann Mulligan was 1-5 with a run scored and one RBI. Keene was 1-4 and Tiff Blumer was 1-4 with a run scored. Amy Brooke started on the mound and worked seven innings. She allowed
eight hits and four runs, three were earned. She walked two and struck
out three. Bigalk came on in relief and took the loss. She allowed three
hits and three earned runs She walked one and struck out one. Fastpitch Team Gets No. 3 Seed April 28, 2003 The Falcons got the No. 3 seed in this weekend's WIAC Tournament that will be played at UW-Platteville. The Falcons, 19-15 overall, will play UW-Stevens Point at 11 a.m. on
Friday in the tournament's third game. UWRF has split two games with the
Pointers this year. At the first WIAC Cluster Tournament at UWSP on April
13 the Pointers took a 4-3 win. On Saturday at UW-Stout in the second
Cluster Tourney, the Falcons won an 8-6 decision.
April 27, 2003 The Falcons won two more games on Sunday at the WIAC Cluster Tourney to finish with a perfect 4-0 record. UWRF opened with an 8-6 win over Stevens Point, and finished with a 10-0 win over Oshkosh. The Falcons were the only team to finish undefeated in the tourney. The Falcons exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to get an 8-6 win over Stevens Point in the first game. UWRF scored eight runs on six hits and made three errors. UWRF's other run was scored in the second. UWSP scored six runs on 12 hits and they made two errors. UWSP scored two runs in the third and sixth innings and single runs in the fifth and seventh. Amanda Moxon finished 1-4, a double, and had three RBIs. She doubled home three runs in the Falcon sixth. Frances Hilpisch and Amy Brooke were both 1-2 with a run scored. Meghann Mulligan was 1-2 with a run scored and Melissa Turbak was 1-3 with a run scored. Emily Evans was 1-2. The Falcons sent 10 batters to the plate in the sixth and benefited from six walks and two hits. UWSP made one error in the inning. In the second, Brooke doubled and later scored on a RBI single by Mulligan. Brooke got the win on the mound to improve her record to 9-9. She worked 5 1/3 innings and allowed 10 hits. She allowed five runs, four were earned. She walked one and struck out four. Leah Vanderploeg picked up the save in relief. She worked the final 1 2/3 innings and allowed two hits and one earned run. She didn't walk a batter and struck out three. The Falcons scored 10 runs on 13 hits and made no errors against Oshkosh in the second game. UWO scored no runs on seven hits and made two errors. The Falcons scored three runs in the fourth and sixth innings and single runs in the first, second, third and fifth innings. Mulligan was 3-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Turbak was 2-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. Moxon was 1-4, with four RBIs and one run scored. She hit a three-run homer in the sixth. Keene was 3-4, a double and a triple, with two RBIs. Anna Poulter was 1-2 with three runs scored. Evans was 1-3 with a run scored, Bloomer was 1-2 with a run scored and Emily Rodgers was 1-3 with a run scored. Devanie Bigalk picked up the pitching win and improved her record to 9-4. She went the distance walking one and striking out five. The Falcons, now 19-15 overall and 10-6 in the WIAC, play in the WIAC Tourney this weekend at UW-Platteville. Fastpitch Team Wins Two at WIAC Cluster Tourney April 26, 2003 The Falcons won two games at the WIAC Cluster Tourney played in Menomonie on Saturday. UWRF opened with a 7-2 win over UW-Platteville, then came back with an 8-2 win over UW-Whitewater. Against Platteville, the big hit for the Falcons was a three-run in the park homer by Anna Poulter in the fourth inning. UWRF scored seven runs on 13 hits and they made two errors. UWRF scored single runs in the second and fifth, three in the fourth and two in the sixth. UWP scored two runs on eight hits and made no errors. The Pioneers scored both runs in the fifth. Poulter finished 2-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Amanda Moxon was 2-4 with one RBI. Emily Evans was 1-3, a double, and one RBI. Amy Brooke was 2-3 and Tiff Bloomer was 2-4. Meghann Mulligan, Emily Rodgers and Emily Stahl were all 1-3 with a run scored. Mulligan had an RBI and Stahl's hit was a triple. Abby Keene was also 1-3. Every starter for UWRF had at least one hit. Brooke went the distance on the mound to get the win. She allowed two earned runs, walked one and struck out four. Against Whitewater, Keene led the team offensively hitting a three-run homer in the third. Keene finished 2-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs. Moxon was 1-4 with two RBIs and Brooke was 2-3 with one RBI. Poulter was 1-3 and scored three times. Melissa Turbak was 1-3 with a run scored and Rodgers was 1-1 with a run scored. UWRF scored eight runs on eight hits and made two errors. UWRF scored single runs in the first and fifth and three times in the third and fifth innings. UWW scored two runs on five hits and they committed three errors. The Warhawks scored single runs in the first and fifth innings. Devanie Bigalk went the distance on the mound to get the win for the Falcons. She allowed two earned runs, walked one and struck out three. The Falcons, now 17-15 overall and 8-6 in the WIAC, will face Stevens Point at 11 a.m. and Oshkosh at 5 p.m. on Sunday in the second day of the tourney. The Falcons have now won five games in a row.
April 24, 2003 The Falcons swept two WIAC games from UW-Superior Thursday afternoon at Ramer Field. The Falcons won the first game, 5-1, and the second game, 6-2. The Falcons, now 15-15 overall and 6-6 in the WIAC, will next compete in the second of two WIAC Cluster Tournaments at UW-Stout. On Saturday the Falcons play Platteville at noon and Whitewater at 6 p.m. On Sunday the Falcons face Stevens Point at 11 a.m. and Oshkosh at 5 p.m. Fastpitch Team Splits With UWL April 18, 2003 The Falcons split another WIAC doubleheader, this one with UW-La Crosse, Friday afternoon at Ramer Field. La Crosse won the first game, 5-2, and the Falcons took the nightcap, 4-1. In the first game, LC scored five runs on 10 hits and they made no errors. UWRF scored two runs on three hits and made two errors. UWL scored two runs in the third and single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh. UWRF scored single runs in the second and fifth innings. Meghann Mulligan led the Falcons at the plate going 2-3 with one RBI. Amanda Moxon had the other Falcon hit. The Falcons scored in the second when Moxon singled and later advanced to second on a passed ball. She scored when Mulligan doubled to right center. In the fifth, Mulligan led off with a single to center. Holly Olson, running for Mulligan, stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Leah Vanderploeg. She later scored on a wild pitch. Amy Brooke took the loss on the mound to put her record at 6-9. She pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs. She walked two and struck out four. Sally Wenzel got the win for UWL and she is now 9-4. She allowed one walk and struck out nine. The Falcons hit the ball better and played solid defense in the field to get the win in the second game, 4-1. UWRF scored four runs on eight hits and made no errors. UWL, now 18-7 overall and 7-3 in the WIAC, scored one run on five hits and made three errors. UWRF scored two in the first and single runs in the second and fourth. UWL scored in the third. Anna Pouler was 3-3 at the plate with a run scored. Tiff Blumer was 2-3. Emily Rodgers was 1-2 with two runs scored. Abby Keene had one RBI and scored a run. Moxon was 1-2 with one RBI. Mulligan was 1-3 with one RBI. In the first, Poulter led off with a single to right and stole second. Keene reached on an error and Poulter scored on the play. Keene was advanced to second on a Moxon sacrifice. Keene advanced to third on an infield out. Mulligan doubled to left center to score Keene. In the second, Rodgers reached on an error with one out. Poulter singled and Rodgers advanced to third on an error on the play. Poulter then stole second. Keene then laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Rodgers from third. In the fourth, Rodgers walked with one out. Poulter bunted for a single and Rodgers advanced to second. Moxon then singled to center to score Rodgers. Devanie Bigalk went the distance on the mound to raise her record to 6-4. She didn't walk a batter and struck out two. Defensively Blumer made a diving catch in left center to rob a UWL player of a double in the fourth. Rodgers made a running catch of a line drive in the sixth. After UWL had scored a run in the third, Keene caught a deep fly to center and threw out an Eagle runner at the plate to complete a double play and end the inning. The Falcons, now 13-15 overall and 4-6 in the WIAC, will next host UW-Superior on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Ramer Field.
April 13, 2003 The Falcons split a WIAC twin bill at UW-Stout Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Devils won the first game, 2-1, and the Falcons won the second, 3-0. In the first game, the Falcons scored one run on six hits and made one error. UWS scored two runs on five hits and they made no errors. UWRF scored its run in the sixth and UWS scored both of its runs in the second. In the sixth Abby Keene singled with one out. After another out Keene stole second and scored on a single by Emily Evans. Keene finished 2-3 with the run scored. Anna Poulter, Amanda Moxon and Tiff Blumer also had hits. Moxon had a double. Amy Brooke took the pitching loss. She went the distance and allowed the two runs, both were unearned. She walked none and struck out three. In the second game the Falcons had three runs on five hits and they made two errors. UWS had three hits and made no errors. UWRF scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth. In the fifth, Moxon doubled with one out. Holly Olson ran for Moxon and advanced to third on an infield out. Meghann Mulligan then singled Olson home. In the sixth, Poulter led off with a triple and Keene followed with another triple that scored Poulter. Brooke then reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second. Keene then scored on a passed ball. Poulter finished 2-4 with a run scored. Keene was 1-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Devanie Bigalk went the distance on the mound for the Falcons and got the win. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m. Fastpitch Team Splits at Cluster Tourney April 13, 2003 The Falcons split in two more games at the WIAC Cluster Tourney played in Stevens Point on Sunday. The Falcons opened with a 2-1 win in eight innings over Oshkosh. UWRF then dropped a 4-3 game to Stevens Point. UWRF finished with a 2-2 record in the tourney. Against Oshkosh the Falcons scored the winning run in the eighth. With one out, Tiff Blumer, Meghann Mulligan and Melissa Turbak all walked. Emily Rodgers then laid down a bunt single to score Bloomer with the winning run. UWRF had two runs on seven hits and they made four errors. UWO scored one run on three hits and made no errors. The other UWRF run came in the third and UWO scored in the fourth. Rodgers was 2-3 at the plate. Anna Poulter was 1-2 with a run scored. Amy Brooke (1-3), Amanda Moxon (1-4), Mulligan (1-3) and Turbak (1-3) also had hits. Brooke went the distance on the mound to get the win and raise her record to 5-7. She allowed one unearned run. She walked two and struck out five. In the loss to UWSP, the Pointers scored four runs on five hits and they made one error. UWRF scored three runs on five hits and they made two errors. UWSP scored twice in the first and sixth innings. UWRF scored all three of its runs in the first. Abby Keene was 2-3, including a triple. Poulter was 1-3 with a run scored. Emily Evans and Blumer also had hits and Mulligan had one RBI. Devanie Bigalk took the pitching loss to put her record at 5-4. She went the distance and allowed the four runs, none were earned. She struck out four and did not walk a batter. The Falcons, now 11-13 overall and 2-4 in the WIAC, play at UW-Stout in a WIAC twin bill on Tuesday. Action starts at 4 p.m. Fastpitch Team Splits in WIAC Cluster Tourney April 12, 2003 The Falcons split in two games Saturday at the WIAC Cluster Tourney at Stevens Point. The Falcons topped UW-Whitewater, 1-0, but lost to UW-Platteville, 5-3. Against Platteville, UWRF scored three runs on nine hits and they made one error. UWP scored five runs on eight hits and they made two errors. UWRF scored two runs in the first and one in the fifth. UWP scored a single run in the first and two in the fourth and fifth innings. Amanda Moxon was 2-4 with one RBI. Anna Poulter and Emily Evans were both 2-4 with one run scored. Each had doubles. Tiff Blumer, Meghann Mulligan and Melissa Turbak also had hits for the Falcons. Leah Vanderploeg took the pitching loss for the Falcons and is now 1-2 this year. She worked 4 1/3 innings and allowed five runs, three were earned. She walked three and struck out four. Katie Larson got the pitching win for UWP, which is now 15-10 overall and 7-0 in the WIAC. Against Whitewater, UWRF scored its only run in the top of the seventh on four walks. Meghann Mulligan walked with one out. Frances Hilpisch, running for Mulligan, advanced to second when Melissa Turbak grounded out. Emily Rodgers walked and both runners advanced a base on a passed ball. Anna Poulter then walked to load the bases. Abby Keene walked to score Hilpisch with the only run of the game. Poulter went 2-3 at the plate and stole two bases. Mulligan finished 2-2 and Emily Evans was 1-3, with a double. Fastpitch Team Drops Two to UWEC April 10, 2003 The Falcons lost a WIAC twin bill to UW-Eau Claire Thursday afternoon at Ramer Field. UWEC won 2-0 and 4-1. In the first game UWEC had two runs on six hits and they made one error. UWRF was scoreless on three hits and they committed no errors. UWEC scored both of its runs in the third inning when Jannah Grinnell hit a two-run homer over the left-center field fence. Amy Brooke took the pitching loss working all seven innings. She walked two and struck out eight. UWEC's Kim Czapla got the win. She also went the distance and allowed no works. She struck out five. Abby Keene went 2-3 at the plate with two doubles. Amanda Moxon had the other UWRF hit. In the second game UWEC, now 9-12 overall and 3-0 in the WIAC, scored four runs on eight hits and they made one error. UWRF scored one run on five hits and they made two errors. UWEC scored single runs in the first and fifth innings and two in the fourth. UWRF scored in the fourth. With two outs, Moxon dubled to right and she later scored on an error. Devanie Bigalk worked 6 1/3 innings and allowed eight hits. She allowed four runs, two were earned. She walked one. Leah Vanderploeg worked the final two outs and didn't allow a base runner. Andrea Neuville went the distance and got the win for UWEC. She allowed the one unearned run. She walked one and struck out four. The Falcons, now 9-11 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC, play in the first of two WIAC Cluster Tournament this weekend at UW-Stevens Point. Saturday the Falcons face Whitewater at 2 p.m. and Platteville at 6 p.m. Sunday the Falcons play Oshkosh at 1 p.m. and Stevens Point at 5 p.m. Fastpitch Team Splits in Two Games at Grinnell April 6, 2003 The Falcon fastpitch team split in two games at the Grinnell Tournament played Saturday. The Falcons beat William Penn, 3-1, but lost to Grinnell, 1-0. Against WP, the Falcons scored three runs on just one hit and made no errors. WP had one run on five hits and they made one error. UWRF scored twice in the first and once in the third. WP scored its run in the second on a home run. In the first Anna Poulter walked and stole second. Tiff Blumer was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on stolen bases on a double steal. Amy Brooke was also hit by a pitch to load the bases. Amanda Moxon then scored Poulter with a sacrifice fly to center with Blumer advancing to third. Meghann Mulligan hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Blumer. In the third Poulter walked, stole second, and scored an an error by the shortstop. Brooke picked up the pitching win. She went the distance, walked two and struck out two. Against GC, UWRF had no runs on three hits and they played errorless ball. GC scored one run on five hits and made one error. Grinnell scored in the third off a double, a single and a fielder's choice. Brooke doubled and Blumer and Melissa Turbak had singles. Devanie Bigalk took the pitching loss. She worked all six innings, struck out two and didn't walk a batter. The Falcons, now 9-9 overall, open WIAC play on Thursday when they host UW-Eau Claire at Ramer Field. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m. Fastpitch Team Drops Two to Concordia April 1, 2003 The Falcon fastpitch team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Concordia-St. Paul Tuesday afternoon at Ramer Field. CSP won the first game, 1-0 in eight innings, the the second game, 7-1. The only run in the first game was a solo homer by CSP's pitcher Kristen Schmidt in the eighth inning. The homer to left came with two out. UWRF had three hits and made one error while CSP had five hits and no errors. Schmidt picked up the win. She didn't walk a batter and struck out 15. She raised her record to 3-3. Amy Brooke took the pitching loss for the Falcons. She went the distance and walked one and struck out eight. She is now 3-6 on the year. Brooke, Emily Evans and Abby Keene had the Falcon hits. Evans had a double in the eighth. CSP scored two runs in each of the first three innings, and a single run in the seventh, to win the second game. CSP had 12 hits and made no errors. UWRF scored its run in the fifth. The Falcons had nine hits and made two errors. Anna Poulter was 2-3 with one RBI. Devanie Bigalk started on the mound and took the loss. She worked four innings and allowed nine hits and six runs. Only three were earned. She didn't walk a batter and struck out one. Leah Vanderploeg worked the final three innings and allowed three hits. She allowed one earned run. She walked two and struck out one. The Falcons, now 8-8 overall, will host St. Mary's at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Ramer Field. The Falcons play in the Grinnell, Iowa Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday the Falcons face William Penn at noon and Nebraska Wesleyan at 2 p.m. On Sunday the Falcons play Grinnell at noon and UM-Morris at 2 p.m. Fastpitch Team Wins Three of Four at Augsburg March 30, 2003 The Falcon fastpitch team won three of four games at the Augsburg Tourney played Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday the Falcons opened with a 10-7 win over Augsburg, but then dropped a 5-1 decision to La Crosse. On Sunday the Falcons beat Nebraska Wesleyan, 9-0 in six innings, and Augsburg again, 4-3. In Saturday's win over Augsburg the Falcons scored 10 runs on 11 hits and committed one error. AC had seven runs on 11 hits and no errors. UWRF scored two runs in the first and fifth and three runs in the second and fourth. Tiff Blumer finished 4-4 with six RBIs and two runs scored. One of her hits was a triple. Anna Poulter was 2-2 with three runs scored. Meghann Mulligan was 2-4 with one RBI. Leah Vanderploeg started on the mound and worked the first four innings to get the win. In the first game, WS scored five runs on eight hits and they made three errors. The Falcons scored four runs on six hits and they also had three errors. UWRF scored once in the second and three times in the seventh. WS scored twice in the third and fourth and once in the sixth. Anna Poulter and Emily Rodgers both were 2-3 amd scored a run. Rodgers had one RBI. Abby Keene was 1-2 with a run scored and one RBI. Amy Brooke went the distance on the mound and took the loss. She allowed four earned runs, walked two and struck out one. Saturday the Falcons play Augsburg at 11 a.m. and La Crosse at 3 p.m. Sunday the Falcons face Nebraska Wesleyan at 11 a.m. and Augsburg at 3 p.m. Fastpitch Team Drops Two March 18, 2003 The Falcon fastpitch team lost both games they played Tuesday in Orlando, Fla. The Falcons lost a 7-4 decision to Geneva and a 4-0 game to William Patterson. Against Geneva, the Falcons had four runs on eight hits and made three errors. Geneva scored seven runs on eight hits and played errorless ball. Geneva blew the game open scoring five runs in the first inning. The Falcons scored their runs in the sixth and seven frames. Abby Keene led the Falcons at the plate going 2-3 with a triple and a run scored in the sixth. Tiff Blumer, Emily Evans and Emily Rodgers also scored for the Falcons. Amy Brooke started on the mound and took the loss. She allowed six runs and four hits. Leah Vanderploeg entered in relief and allowed four hits and one run. The Falcons had seven hits but couldn't score a run against WP. They
made two errors. WP scored four runs on nine hits and made one error.

Fastpitch Team Opens With Two Wins in Florida March 17, 2003 The Falcon fastpitch team opened their spring trip in Orlando, Fla., with two wins on Monday. The Falcons opened with a 3-1 win over Millikin and then took a 1-0 win over Allegheny. Against Millikin the Falcons had three runs on five hits and made no errors. Millikin had one run on nine hits and they made one error. UWRF scored two runs in the first and one in the second. Millikin scored its run in the seventh. Anna Poulter was 3-3 with one run scored, one RBI and two stolen bases. Melissa Turbak and Amy Brooke had the other Falcon hits. Brooke had a triple. Brooke picked up the pitching win. She worked all seven innings and allowed the nine hits and one earned run. She walked four and struck out four. In the win over Alleghney the Falcons had one run on five hits and they
made three errors. AC had no runs on four hits and they made one error.
UWRF score the only run of the game in the first. Poulter led off with
a hit, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Emily Rodgers, stole third
and later scored on an error. Meghann Mulligan was 2-2 and Tiff Blumer
finished 2-3 at the plate. Jessamy Schwartz, playing third base, had a
strong defensive game. She was involved in two double plays, the first
unassisted in the fifth inning and the second a 5-2-6 play in the seventh

distance allowing no runs on four hits. He struck out three and did not

Fastpitch Team Sweeps Nebraska Wesleyan March 8, 2003 The Falcon Fastpitch team defeated Nebraska Wesleyan in both games of a double header at the Eden Prairie Dome in Eden Prairie, Minn.. The scores were 3-0 and 12-7. In the first game, the Falcons had three runs on six hits and they made
one error. Nebraska Wesleyan scored zero runs on three hits and made three
errors. UWRF scored its runs in the first, third, and 6th innings. Anna
Poulter was 2-3 with two runs scored. Melissa Turbak was 1-2 with one
run scored. Amy Brooke and Emily Evans were both 1-3. Amanda Moxon was
1-2. Amy Brooke went the distance on the mound and took the win. She allowed
three hits and no earned runs. She walked just two and struck out eight. In the second game, UWRF scored twelve runs on 14 hits and made two errors.
NW scored seven runs on seven hits and made three errors. UWRF scored
single four runs in the first and seventh innings. The Falcons scored
two runs in the third and single runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.
NW scored three each in the fifth and seventh innings and scored one run
in the second inning. Anna Poulter was 3-4 with three runs scored. Amanda
Moxon was 2-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Emily Vogt was 2-4 with
3 runs scored. Jessamy Schwartz was 1-5 with three RBIs. Melissa Turbak
was 1-3 with one run scored. Devanie Bigalk took the win on the mound.
She worked four innings and allowed three hits and no earned runs. Leah
Vanderploeg finished the game and allowed four hits and two earned runs.
