Five Falcons Named to All-WIAC Softball Teams

Pitchers Devanie Bigalk (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Amy Brooke (Sr., Spring Valley, Wis.), outfielder Abby Keene (Jr., Hastings, Minn.), catcher Anna Poulter (Jr., Colfax, Iowa) and first baseman Meghann Mulligan (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) were named to the 2003 All-WIAC softball teams.

Bigalk, Brooke, Keeene and Poulter were all named to the first team and Mulligan received honorable mention.

Bigalk, who was named to the first team in 2001, returned to the Falcons after not playing in 2002. The left-handed pitcher had an outstanding season in working 85 1/3 innings and finishing with a 10-5 record and she had one save. She had a team leading 1.48 ERA. She allowed 77 hits and 32 runs, only 18 were earned. She walked 18 and struck out 32. Opponents hit .239 against her.

Brook was named to the first team in 2000 and 2001 and she received honorable mention in 2002. She has been a mainstay on the mound throughout her four-year career. In 2003 she worked a team-high 130 innings and finished with a 1.62 ERA. She had a 9-10 record. She allowed 46 runs, 30 were earned. She walked 39 and struck out a team high 94 batters. Opponents hit .230 against her, best on the team. She holds the school record for career strike outs (347) and season strike outs (98 in 2001). But she has also played a key role with the team with her batting prowess. When not pitching she was the team's designated player. She hit .253, going 25-99. She scored six runs. Brooke had six doubles, two triples and eight RBIs. She finished with a .354 slugging percentage and a .339 on-base percentage. She walked 10 times and stole one base. In the field she made just one error in 54 chances for a .981 fielding percentage. Brooke was named a NFCA Scholar-Athlete in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Brooke was named the 2003 WIAC Co-Scholar Athlete.

Keene had a solid season in her first year starting for the Falcons in the outfield where she started all 37 games. She finished second on the team in hitting with a .343 average going 35-102 at the plate. Keene had six doubles, a team high five triples and one home run. She led the Falcons with a .529 slugging percentage. She walked seven times and stole 10 bases. She was caught stealing only once. She led the team with 11 sacrifices and was second in RBIs with 20. She had a .385 on-base percentage, and scored 18 runs, both second on the team. In the field she made only two errors in 67 chances and finished with a .970 fielding percentage. She was named a NFCA Scholar Athlete in 2002.

Poulter was named to the first team in 2001. She played the outfield in her first two seasons with the Falcons but moved to her natural position behind the plate in 2003. She led the Falcons in hitting with a .411 average. She finished 46-112 at the plate and led the Falcons with 33 runs scored. She had one double, two triples and one home run. She had a .482 slugging percentage, second on the team and led the team with a .480 on-base percentage. She walked 14 times and struck out just 11 times. She finished with nine RBIs. The fastest player on the team, Poulter led the Falcons with 38 stolen bases. She had a .971 fielding percentage in handling 209 chances. Poulter was named a NFCA Scholar-Athlete in 2002.

Mulligan was named to the first team in 2000 and was given honorable mention in 2001. She finished fifth on the team in hitting with a .288 average. She was 30-104 at the plate. She scored 11 runs. She had four doubles and finished with a .327 slugging percentage. She had a .359 on-base percentage and finished with 12 RBIs. An outstanding defensive player, Mulligan led the team with a .987 fielding percentage. She had just three errors in 237 chances. Mulligan is the all-time leader in career put outs with 963. She was named the team's Co-Best Defensive Player in 2000. She was named a NFCA Scholar-Athlete in 2002 and 2000. She also played tennis for the Falcons and in 2001-02 was named the sport's WIAC Scholar-Athlete, the most prestigious award given by the conference in each sport.
