Brooke Named 2003 WIAC Softball Co-Scholar-Athlete

Falcon pitcher Amy Brooke (Sr., Spring Valley, Wis.) has been named the WIAC softball Co-Scholar-Athlete Award winner for 2003. Brook was named to the first team All-WIAC team in 2003, 2001 and 2000 and she received honorable mention in 2002. She has been a mainstay on the mound throughout her four-year career. In 2003 she worked a team-high 130 innings and finished with a 1.62 ERA. Brooke finished fourth in the WIAC in ERA in 2003. She had a 9-10 record. She allowed 46 runs, 30 were earned. She walked 39 and struck out a team high 94 batters. Opponents hit .230 against her, best on the team. She holds the school record for career strike outs (347) and season strike outs (98 in 2001). But she has also played a key role with the team with her batting prowess. When not pitching she was the team's designated player. She hit .253, going 25-99. She scored six runs. Brooke had six doubles, two triples and eight RBIs. She finished with a .354 slugging percentage and a .339 on-base percentage. She walked 10 times and stole one base. In the field she made just one error in 54 chances for a .981 fielding percentage. In the classroom, Brooke has just an impressive set of statistics. She was named a NFCA Scholar-Athlete in 2000, 2001 and 2002. She has been named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll each year. She has a 4.0 grade point average in her major - animal science. She is minoring in farm management. Her overall grade point average is 3.876. She has earned several academic scholarships including the American Society of Animal Science Scholarship in 2002. She has been named to the UW-RF Dean's List in every semester of attendance (7). Brooke is a member of the UW-RF Student Athlete Advisory Committee as the softball representative. UW-Whitewater's Megan Koeller was the other winner. The WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award is the most prestigious academic award given by the WIAC. It is presented to the most outstanding senior from each conference sport during the year that exhibits the greatest combination of performance and achievement in academics, athletics and leadership. It is currently sponsored by Culver's. In order to be nominated for the award a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.25 grade point average, be in the last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year and have competed for a minimum of two years. The award is named after Judy Kruckman, who served as the WWIAC Commissioner for several years. |
