Falcon Softball Player of the Week

April 29, 2002


Angie Garin (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Simley HS) had a good week for the Falcons. She was 9-24 at the plate for a .375 batting average. She had two RBIs, scored five runs and had two doubles and a home run. She also stole a base.

Pitcher Amy Brooke (Jr., Spring Valley, Wis.) finished with a 2-2 record on the mound last week. She threw four complete games and allowed 16 hits and six runs. She struck out 20 and walked nine.

 

 

 

April 22, 2002

Shortstop Holly Olson (Fr., Waconia, Minn.) stepped up her defense in the four games played last week. She had 11 put outs and nine assists. She turned two, key double plays in UWRF's win over UWEC in the first game of the UWEC Tournament.

Pitcher Leah Vanderploeg (Fr., Cable, Wis. Drummond HS) had two very fine performances on the mound last week. In the second game against UWEC on April 16, Vanderploeg came in in relief and threw four complete innings. She gave up only one hit and no runs. In UWRF's win over UWEC in the first game of the UWEC Tournament on April 20, Vanderploeg pitched the complete seven innings to pick up the win. After giving up four hits and two runs in the first inning, Vanderploeg shut down UWEC giving up only two hits no runs the rest of the game.

 

 

 

April 15, 2002

Outfielder Emily Vogt (Jr., Annandale, Minn.) finished with a .500 batting average at the WIAC cluster tourney last weekend. She went 5-10 at the plate. She had a .636 (7-11) on-base percentage. Against Platteville she had two RBIs and knocked in the winning run in the fifth.

Pitcher Amanda Jo Decker (Sr., Howard Lake, Minn., Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted HS) pitched in two games for the Falcons at the WIAC cluster tourney last weekend. She worked nine innings and allowed two runs and seven hits in the two games. She walked five and struck out three.

 

 

 

 

 

 

April 8, 2002

Outfielder Anna Poulter (So., Colfax, Iowa) led the Falcons at the plate in the team’s four games at the Grinnell Tournament. Batting lead off, she was 10-17 (.588). She scored six runs, had two RBIs and stole eight bases. She was 11-18 (.611) in on-base percentage for the weekend. Against Marycrest when she was 4-5 at the plate with four stolen bases and two runs scored. Against William Penn she was also 4-5 with two stolen bases, a run scored and two RBs.

Pitcher Amy Brooke (Jr., Spring Valley, Minn.) pitched in two games and finished with a 1-1 record. Against William Penn she allowed just two hits and one run, it was unearned. She struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in getting the win. At the plate she was 4-4 with two RBIs. Against Grinnell she allowed five runs, four were earned. She allowed six hits, struck out five and walked three.

 

 

 

April 1, 2002

Infielder Tiffany Blumer (Fr., Albany, Wis.) helped the Falcons to an 5-3 record in games played in Florida last week. She played in five games and finished with a .466 batting average. She went 7-15 at the plate and scored seven runs and had seven RBIs, the most of any player on the trip. She had one double, stole a base and was perfect in the fieldd handling all 13 chances that came her way. Blumer had been playing shortstop, but was moved to third base in the team’s two final games and handled the change with ease.

Pitcher Leah Vanderploeg (Fr., Cable, Wis., Drummond HS) finished with a 4-2 record in the team’s eight games played in Florida. The freshman played in seven of the team’s eight games and finished with a 4-2 record. She pitched 28.2 innings, allowed 25 hits. She allowed 13 runs, nine were earned. She allowed 25 hits, walked only seven and struck out 17. She had a 2.23 ERA on the trip.

 

 

 

March 18, 2002

Outfielder Nikki Harberts (Jr., Rochester, Minn. Mayo HS) had a great day at the plate for the Falcons in the team’s 3-1 win over Macalester. She was 2-3 with a double and a triple. She doubles and scored the team’s second run in the fourth inning. She tripled and scored the team’s third run in the sixth inning.
