Effle Receives Honorable Mention

McKernon Named to First All-WIAC Team

Falcon basketball player Melissa McKernon (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) has been named to the 2002 first All-WIAC team. Erin Effle (Fr., Rochester, Minn. John Marshall HS) was given honorable mention.

McKernon finished second in scoring this year averaging 11 points a game and in rebounding averaging 5.6 a game. McKernon, who was named to the 2001 first All-WIAC team, was 95-251 (.378) from the field, including 31-92 (.337) from three-point range. She was 66-91 (.725) from the line, tops on the team. She was second in assists (61) and finished with 31 steals and five blocked shots. She averaged 31.6 minutes a game and started every game for the Falcons. She finished 12th in scoring in the WIAC. In 114 career games she was 299-743 (.402) from the field, including 90-255 (.352) from three-point range. She was 170-255 (.666) from the line. She finished with 430 rebounds (3.7), 155 assists, 87 steals and 16 blocked shots. She averaged 7.5 points a game in her career.

Effle had a great rookie season with the Falcons. She led the team in scoring, 11.3 points a game, and rebounding, 6.8 a game. She finished 117-235 (.498) from thge field, including 6-14 (.429) from three-point range. She was 42-67 (.627) from the line. She had 27 assists, six blocked shots and 39 steals in averaging 25.4 minutes a game. She finished ninth in scoring and sixth in rebounding in the WIAC.

The Falcons finished 11-15 overall and were 5-11 and in seventh place in the WIAC.
