DetailsThe introductory course is designed to acquaint students in school psychology with a variety of contemporary issues pertinent to the practice of psychology in the schools. Included are discussions of the development of school psychology as a profession, delivery of school psychological services involving direct and indirect means, current practices in school psychology, professional ethics and responsibilities, and challenging issues in the field. Special emphasis is given to the various roles and functions of practicing school psychologists. The provision of school psychological services to diverse populations is also reviewed, and the concepts of data-based decisions and evidence-based practice is introduced. Prerequisite: Standing as a graduate student in school psychology or consent of instructor. (F)
