St. Croix Valley Sets Annual Governor's Cruise

The St. Croix Valley Regional Tourism Alliance will be celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Alliance with a cruise on the Scenic St. Croix River on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Nineteen cities formed the Alliance five years ago to promote the St. Croix River Valley as a destination for visitors.
The Cruise will begin at Afton, Minn., and will cruise the Lower St. Croix National Scenic Riverway to Prescott, Wis.. Many dignitaries will help the Alliance celebrate. Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson, and Minnesota Gov. Arne Carlson have been invited. Other invited guests include Karyn Bye, a member of the 1998 Olympic Gold Medal hockey team, from River Falls, Wis., and members of the Kansas Chiefs Football team.
The cruise is open to all tourism related businesses.
Registration is from noon until 12:45 p.m. at the Afton Marina, located behind the Afton House. The Grand Duchess will leave Afton at 1 p.m., and arrive in Prescott about 3 p.m.
The Steamboat Inn in Prescott will host a post cruise party, featuring entertainment, food, and special price on beverages. Buses will be available to return guests to Afton, or participants may make the return trip by boat.
