UW-RF Tells Summer Concert Series Schedule
The outdoor summer concert series at the Melvin Wall Amphitheater on the UW-River Falls campus will kick off on Tuesday, June 22. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. every Tuesday until July 20.
The performances are funded by UW-RF students, and are free and open to the public. A schedule of the Summer Sunset concerts follows:
June 22: TONIC SOLF-FA: With their clever classics and rich renditions of pop, country, and cartoon jingles, TONIC SOL-FA has been dazzling audiences of all ages. Their hot a cappella, powerful presence, light-hearted humor and incessant energy make a musical mix that can't be beat.
June 29: In Capable Hands: Trained by the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, this innovative comedy juggling duo amazes audiences of all ages. With eye-catching and off-center comic flair, In Capable Hands are seasoned pros. They have their own brand of fresh and distinctive humor.
July 6: Rakia International Folk Music: Rakia, led by Roger Tweiten, brings exciting international folk music. The seven-member group performs tunes from many lands: Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Israel, Turkey, Armenia, Brittany, Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Canada. They play clarinet, flute, violin, recorder, autoharp, accordion, guitar, bass, and a variety of percussion instruments, and sing in exotic harmonies.
July 13: St. Croix Community Band: Under the direction of Kris Tjornehoj, the ever popular St. Croix Valley Community Band will perform a musical adventure. Great for all ages, this performance is sure to please!
July 20: The Kids From Wisconsin: Back again by popular demand, are the Kids From Wisconsin! The troupe is comprised of over 30 student musicians between the ages of 15 and 20. The Kids From Wisconsin are officially designated the "musical goodwill ambassadors" of the State of Wisconsin.
Concert-goers can snack on brats from the concession stand or are invited to pack a picnic and are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. However, grills and alcoholic beverages are not allowed.
