Ensemble Concert Set for May 9
The UW-River Falls percussion ensemble will present a concert May 9 at 8 p.m. in the William Abbott Concert Hall of the Kleinpell Fine Arts building on the UW-RF campus.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of J. Michael Roy, the ensemble will present works it performed during its recent tour of several high schools in the Rice Lake, Wis., area.
Works include Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance," Lalo Davila's upbeat Latin piece "Mo Java," and Glassock's percussion fugue "Layers." The ensemble will also perform a novelty rag by Humfeld originally written for piano over 80 years ago titled "Who Let the Crows Out?"
The concert will also feature performances by the mallet ensemble and a vibe soloist. The mallet ensemble will perform three works, and vibe soloist Ryan McCarthy, Eagan, Minn., will perform "John Brown's Body," a piece for jazz combo.
