Summer Concert Series Dates Set
Some newer artists will join with long-time favorites for the free Summer Picnic Series concerts at UW-River Falls.
Performances will start June 11 and continue every Tuesday until July 25 at 7 p.m in the Wahl Amphitheater. However, no concert is scheduled for July 2 because of Fourth of July weekend. Each concert is free and everyone is welcome to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the fun.
Participants may bring their own picnic dinner; however, charcoal grills are not allowed. Food concessions will be available.
Here is a schedule of the upcoming concert events:
June 11: The Memories: this Menomonie-based group is a long-time favorite that kicks off the summer series each year with a combination of comedy and music designed to please an audience of all ages.
June 18: the Beacon Hill Brass from Minneapolis will preform a concert that blends classical and pop music with comedy and wit.
June 25: Diamond Bluff native Collee Raye and Friends will preform a concert featuring show tunes, Broadway and Patsy Cline hits.
July 9: the St. Croix Valley Community Band will feature local musicians from all over the Scenic St. Croix Valley.
July 16: The Great River Big Band will preform big band classics including pieces by Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman. The LaCrosse group will also play pop music, and has performed with Bob Hope, Red Skeleton, Melissa Manchester and Ed Shaughnessy.
July 23: The Kids from Wisconsin, "Wisconsin's Musical Goodwill Ambassadors" will once again close the concert series. The troupe is composed of some 32 Wisconsin student musicians and stage performers between the ages of 15 and 20. Their performance features vocals and dancing to big band arrangements, as well as instrumental selections.
