A UW-River Falls student was killed and four others suffered minor injuries in a one-car rollover accident on Wednesday, April 9.
According to information provided to UW-River Falls by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred about 2:11 a.m. at the junction of Pierce County Highways N and J in Martell Township, approximately three miles north of Ellsworth.
Killed was Anthony D. Stodola, 20, of Lena, Wis. Stodola was a junior majoring in broad area agriculture in the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences.
Treated and released for injuries from River Falls Area Hospital were CAFES students: Brian Haag, 21, a junior from Muskego, Wis.; Toni Cina, 22, a junior from River Falls; Travis Delzer, 24, a senior from Dodge Center, Minn.; and Joel Ehlen, 21, a junior from Elkhorn, Wis.
Provost Robert Milam remarked that the death of Anthony Stodola and the injuries to four other students has cast a pall on the campus. He noted that spring semester is typically a time of energy and enthusiasm as the school year nears an end and students look forward to commencement.
"We deeply regret Anthony's death. We are a very close-knit community at UW-River Falls, and particularly within the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Anthony's family and friends."
He added that the University has and will continue to provide assistance to all students, faculty or staff who need counseling because of Stodola's death. University personnel were notified of the accident at 8:10 a.m., according to Dean of Students Roger Ballou.
Student Life and Counseling Center staff immediately began notifying students, faculty and staff who were friends, teachers or advisors to Stodola and the injured students to provide information and to offer counseling.

The session is 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, in the Agriculture Lounge, Room 117, of the Agricultural Sciences Building.
