Senior Outreach Program Set

Classes for Session IV of Senior Outreach Studies have been announced by the UW-River Falls.

Classes will begin on Tuesday, April 23, and Thursday, April 25, and will continue for another three weeks. The classes are held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Room 137-138 of Rodli Commons, and are open to all area seniors who are 55 years or older. Each session consists of a presentation, a coffee break and discussion.

The Tuesday morning classes are part of a new offering called "A morning With a Professor" and will feature presentations by UW-River Falls faculty members.

Presenters, their topics, and the dates are as follows:

  • April 23, sociology Professor Brian Copp will present "Environmental Hypocrisy."
  • April 30, economic development specialist Professor Larry Swain, will discuss his participation in an international assistance program, "The Hungarian Project: Developing Community Leaders in Northern Hungary."
  • May 7, mathematics Professor Don Leake will present "Fractals: A Geometry of Nature."
  • May 14, geography Professor Michael will speak about "Reading the Rural Landscape."
  • The Thursday morning classes are called "Art Potpourri III" and will feature area artists as well as a UW-RF faculty member. Together they will discuss and demonstrate their particular area of expertise.

    Presenters, their topics, and the dates are as follows:

  • April 25, Raptor Center, University of Minnesota, will present "Close Encounters with Raptors." (This is a rescheduling of a program that was canceled due to the March 26 snow storm.)
  • May 2, Gareth and Janet Hiebert, St. Paul, will present "Rivers of Impressionism."
  • May 9, Bettye Olson, artist and director of the Third Age Augsburg College in Minneapolis, will discuss "Fountain of Age: Older Artists."
  • May 16, Bernice Ficek-Swenson, UW-RF art department, will discuss the "Rock Art of Southeastern Utah."
  • Senior Outreach Studies members will receive information through the mail. For more information, call UW-RF Continuing Education Extention at 715/425-3256 for information regarding class fees and registration procedures.
