Connolly Dance Company to Perform April 18
The Connolly Dance Company will present a unique modern dance performance at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on April 18 at 8 p.m. in the North Hall auditorium. Tickets are available at the door. The cost is $5 for the public, and free for UW-RF students.
"This group is young, fresh, alive and full of energy and movement," said Wyman Series coordinator Kaye Schendel, who saw the group perform in Chicago last summer.
Founded in Madison in 1994, the Connolly Dance Company's mission is to provide audiences of all ages with fresh, innovative, accessible, and exciting dance performances.
The four members of Connolly Dance also hope that audiences will "walk away with a sense of fulfillment, and a better understanding and appreciation of this beautiful art form we call dance."
The newly established dance company maintains a repertoire of 17 works, three with commissioned scores. The company has performed at numerous universities throughout the Midwest, at Link's Hall and The Cafe Voltaire in Chicago, the Kanopy Performing Arts Center in Madison, Wis., the Peninsula Dance Festival in Door County, Wis., and the prestigious Hennepin Center of the Arts in Minneapolis.
The company not only performs an eclectic group of works in concert, but also gives lecture demonstrations, dance workshops, and residencies throughout the United States.
Last November a 7-day residency took place in conjunction with the Dance Theater organization at UW-River Falls. Eight members of Dance Theater were cast in a piece choreographed by Patrick Connolly, the artistic director and co-founder of the company. The dancers worked long hours with Connolly learning the movement, rehearsing, and perfecting the demanding technique required for the piece. The work will be performed at the Dance Theater's annual Spring Dance Concert April 9-12.
