UW-River Falls Commencement Set for May 20

An expected 522 bachelor's and master's candidates will participate in commencement ceremonies at UW-River Falls on Saturday, May 20, during the institution's 125th anniversary year.

The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in the Robert P. Knowles Physical Education and Recreation Center. UW-RF graduating senior Bridget M. Finke will deliver the commencement address. Finke is a speech communications major from Edgar, Wis.

Also addressing the assemblage will be Chancellor Gary A. Thibodeau, who will retire on Aug. 1 after serving 15 years as the University's chief executive officer.

During the ceremony, biology Professor Karen Klyczek will be recognized as the 2000 Distinguished Teacher, the highest award accorded at the University. Also, Patricia Steiner, a Withee, Wis., native who is a classical singer with the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York, will be recognized as the 2000 Distinguished Alumnus.

Conferring degrees will be Chancellor Thibodeau; Provost and Vice Chancellor Robert Milam; Dean William Anderson of the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences; Dean Gorden Hedahl of the College of Arts & Sciences; Dean Karen Viechnicki of the College of Education & Graduate Studies; and Professor Jacque Foust, chair of the business administration department and associate director of the School of Business & Economics.
