Conversations with call-in programs hosted by Tom Clark, Jean Feraca and Larry Meiller-and popular weekend programs like Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?, Car Talk, Zorba Paster on Your Health, and Calling All Pets-will soon be part of the radio menu for WRFW-FM (88.7) listeners.
The University of Wisconsin River Falls radio station is joining the Ideas Network of Wisconsin Public Radio. The new affiliation will be part of a Thursday, April 30, signing ceremony to take place at noon.
UW-RF Chancellor Gary A. Thibodeau will be joined in signing the agreement by UW-Extension Interim Chancellor Al Beaver, and Deputy Director of the Educational Communications Board Wendy Wink.
Chancellor Thibodeau says the WRFW-WPR partnership is an important component in maintaining the regional identity of western Wisconsin.
"As western Wisconsin is pulled more deeply into the orbit of the expanding Twin Cities metropolitan area, it is becoming even more critical to maintain our connection to Wisconsin news and ideas," he observed. "The association between UW-River Falls and the Ideas Network of Wisconsin Public Radio will provide the means to ensure that the free flow of this information continues to our combined listening audiences."
UW-Extension Interim Chancellor Beaver called the move another example of the strength of the UW's broadcasting partnership, as well as an additional opportunity for students interested in pursuing broadcasting as a career.
The executive director of the Educational Communications Board, Thomas Fletemeyer, said that the ECB is committed to ensuring that Wisconsin Public Radio reaches all corners of the state providing Wisconsin listeners with statewide, local and regional programming.
"We are honored to have WRFW join the Wisconsin Public Radio family," Fletemeyer said.
Interim Director of Wisconsin Public Radio Greg Schnirring said the partnership is "an opportunity to expand on the Wisconsin Idea and take Wisconsin Public Radio programming to the state border. This is an exciting way to spread the uniquely Wisconsin programming of the IDEAS NETWORK to one of the fastest growing areas of the state."
Music programming produced by UW-River Falls students will air from 1 p.m until 2 a.m. when the University is in session.
The station is licensed to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents. Wisconsin Public Radio is a service of Wisconsin Educational Communications Board and University of Wisconsin-Extension.
