St. Croix Valley Offers Upscale Discount Packet

A free discount packet to some of the best lodging, retail, dining and entertainment attractions in the Scenic St. Croix Valley is available to visitors.
The packet contains a map and coupons to more than 50 business in 19 communities in six counties of Wisconsin and Minnesota that border the Lower St. Croix National Scenic Riverway.
The promotional campaign is sponsored by the St. Croix Valley Regional Tourism Alliance, which spans the river from Taylors Falls, Minn., and St. Croix Falls, Wis., on the north, to the confluence of the St. Croix and the Mississippi River to the south at Prescott, Wis., and Hastings, Minn.
"We're excited about this effort to attract more visitors to the Scenic St. Croix Valley," says Carol Sudheimer, alliance president of Afton, Minn. "We have so much to offer here, and we hope the packet will convince visitors to return again and again."
Included in the coupon books are substantial discount incentives to lodging establishments, Beds & Breakfast, marinas, river cruises, rail tours, restaurants, antique dealers, retail establishments, river tubing, casinos, a nature center, a heritage center, a trout farm, canoe rentals, and summer theatre. The packet also includes a special discount to a Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Performance of the nationally acclaimed Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua.
Production of the packet was make possible by grants from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and the Minnesota Office of Tourism.
This marks the second year that the two departments have contributed to the promotion, according to Alliance marketing Chair Mark Kinders, the public affairs director at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
The two states have contributed over $70,000 to assist in the production and for an advertising campaign in the Upper Midwest.
Also underwriting the project for the 5-year-old bi-state regional tourism alliance are the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Northern States Power, Sprint, Dakota Electric Association, and Andersen Windows.
