Concert Choir Performs "Home from Italy"
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Concert Choir recently returned from a 13-day concert tour of central Italy and will perform its "Home from Italy" concert on Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m., in the William Abbott Concert Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and open to the public.
The performance by the 78-member choir will begin with a selection of religious music and will then feature "Va Pensiero" from the Verdi opera, "Nabucco," an Italian favorite. The concert will conclude with a varied selection of American spirituals, including two arrangements by director Elliot R. Wold.
Wold will be retiring this spring, following a 35-year teaching career at UW-RF. During the years under his direction, the concert choir participated in 10 performances with the Minnesota Orchestra and took eight concert trips throughout western Europe. They also performed in Canada and in the Far East in 1978 and 1989.
Wold graduated from Barron High School in 1948 and received degrees in music from the UW-Madison and Concordia College, in Moorhead, Minn. He also studied at Indiana and Northwestern Universities.
Prior to his position at UW-RF, Wold taught six years at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and one year at Concordia.
Concert Choir alumni meet annually for a reunion retreat at the University's Pigeon Lake Camp in Drummond, Wis. They perform at an annual Homecoming concert on campus and have completed three concert tours in Europe.
