Education Extension Courses Announced
Credit classes in education will be offered beginning in January through Continuing Education Extension at UW-River Falls. Registration for the courses is required two weeks prior to the first class date. For more information contact Continuing Education Extension at 715/425-3256 or 800-228-5607.
The following courses will be offered:
"The American Cinema" is a three-credit undergraduate or graduate course that explores how Hollywood films work technically, artistically, and culturally to reinforce and challenge America's national self image. It is a college-by-cassette and Educational Teleconference Network course offered collaboratively through UW-RF and UW-Stout. ETN times are 6-7:20 p.m. on 12 Tuesdays from Feb. 18-May 13.
"Contemporary Issues: Cooperative Learning" is a one-credit undergraduate or graduate course that addresses the skills necessary to instruct students in small mixed-ability learning groups. It focuses on teaching students how to cooperate, complete tasks, problem solve and function more efficiently and effectively in groups. The course meets Jan. 24 from 5-9 p.m. and Jan. 25 from 8:30-4:30 p.m. It is taught by Dr. Judy Cooper. Registration is $20 and does not include tuition or textbook.
"Contemporary Issues: Schools of Thought" is a two-credit undergraduate or graduate course designed to help educators become updated in current issues. It is a college-by-cassette course offered collaboratively through UW-RF and UW-Stout. ETN times: 6-7:20 p.m., seven Mondays from March 17-May 5.
"Contemporary Issues: Learning Styles for Teachers" is a one-credit undergraduate or graduate course in which teachers will examine their own learning styles and those of children using Gregoric Style Deliniators. The course meets March 21 from 5-9 p.m. and March 22 from 8:30-4:30 p.m. at UW-RF. It is taught by Dr. Judy Cooper. Registration is $20 and does not include tuition.
This course is also offered Feb. 1 from 8:30-4 p.m. and Feb. 8 from 8:30-4:30 p.m. at St. Croix Falls High School. Registration is $5 payable to St. Croix Falls Community Education at the first class.
"Self-Esteem Education - Raising Students' Self-Esteem" is a two-credit graduate course that teaches the most advanced, most successful strategies to raise student self-esteem. It is a self-paced video course. Call the number above for more information.
"Contemporary Issues: Infusing Humor in the Classroom" is a one-credit graduate course that explores techniques for using humor to teach and motivate students. The course meets April 18 from 5-9 p.m. and April 19 from 8:30-4:30 p.m. It is taught by Dr. Bob Kann. Registration is $85 non-credit or $20 plus tuition for credit.
