UW-River Falls Commencement Set For December 19

December 10, 1998

An expected 280 bachelor's and master's condidates will participate in commencement ceremonies at UW-River Falls on Saturday, Dec. 19. Included will be the first graduates of the recently formed School of Business and Economics.

The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in the Robert P. Knowles Physical Education and Recreation Center. The commencement address will be given by teacher education Professor David A. Pepi, the University's Distinguished Teacher.

Of the 251 bachelor's degrees conferred during the ceremony, 42 will be from the new School of Business and Economics, which was formed by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents in 1996.

SBE Director Neal Prochnow notes the commencement ceremony is an endorsement of UW-RF's strong programs in Economics and Business Administration for three decades.

"The students who have graduated from these programs and the faculty who have responsibility for these programs have had neither the recognition nor the visibility that they deserve. The students graduating this Fall as the 'first class' of the School of Business and Economics is a significant step toward providing the recognition that has been long over due," Prochnow said.

Conferring degrees will be Chancellor Gary A. Thibodeau, Provost and Vice Chancellor Robert Milam, Graduate School and College of Education Dean Karen Viechnicki, College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences Dean Gary Rohde, College of Arts and Sciences Dean Gorden Hedahl, and Prochnow.
